How to MAKE a PERCH and attract WOODPECKERS to your GARDEN!

For this video I decided to showcase an idea I had, which was to try and photograph woodpeckers from my bedroom window. The problem was I didn't want to photograph them on the bird feeders so I had to make a more natural perch first.
The camera used is my Canon 1dxmkii and the lens in my Canon 500 f4.
I know this is a little bit different to my normal style of video and next week things go back to normal when I spend the day on a remote island photographing one of my favourite birds. So stayed tuned for that one!

This was great! Never mind the GSW, I especially loved the footage of the juvenile blue tits, and the bit with the 2 brown hare! Look forward to more of your vids!

Great video & have just subscribed. I’ve done something similar & have had it place for a few years & was fortunate enough this year to watch the adults bring the juveniles to the post which was lovely to watch. Keep it in place & make sure it’s always topped up & you’ll reap the rewards. Try either peanut butter or crush some peanuts up & mix them with suet, this way you can really cram more in & won’t have to fill it so often. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Cheers. Mark.

Good video and descriptive. Aren’t they just lovely birds? Maybe I should modify the tree stump I reclaimed into my garden with some peanut holes, as I do have the occasional woody visitor. I’d been ’stalking’ a nesting family on a field edge and they are so beautiful.

Thank you. Yes they're awesome birds and it was great watching the young come in every day. I'd definitely recommend it if you're after some images of them not on a feeder. Sounds like you're in the right spot!

Very lovely as always! I just might try something like that. I get lots of different types of birds here since I have many fruit trees. They are just so hard to shoot ! For me anyways 😉 great work!

Great work Richard....they came in so quickly! What is the purpose of the old sieve under the feeder?

Hi Phil, thanks for watching. Initially it was to stop the bird feed from going all over the floor but they didn't last long...

@@mywildlifeimages , it's a good idea and I might look at something similar. Look forward to a video on 'Hares from Home' at some point.....amazing to have them so close too!
@mywildlifeimages
@mywildlifeimages 3 года назад
@@philbooth319 I wanted to make that next but sadly the spring barley is making the hares almost impossible to see, so I'll have to wait till harvest time. Puffins, little owls and beavers all filmed and coming soon though.
