A very instructive vid, I have never done an exhibition, I do doco projects about my region and print them as zines. People say: "You should do an exhibition" to which I say, "i'm not ready". I still feel that way because what you demonstrate is that there is a lot of planning and prep to get something out of it, maybe even advice from other photogs/artists. Thank you for this and for your enthusiasm, greetings from NZ.
Thank you Graham, there's so many ways of doing an exhibition. Although in the video I talk about major galleries I've got a friend who has a little shop in Margate and in the summer I hope to put some photos in her window. And that's exciting too! And you know you'll probably sell a bunch of zines if you had an exhibition!
I hope your family member is doing better now! I don‘t expect to ever have an exhibition, but if i do, i will make sure to re-watch this video! Really appreciate the insight into what it means to be a photographer! The online tutorials sound great! I‘m still at a very early level and barely able to go out and take photos due to some health problems, but i‘ll make sure to check if you still offer those tutorials when i‘m ready to take the next step into photography!:) Finding ways to effectively earn a living with your craft can be difficult, but i think you are doing the right thing to try out different ways. Eventually you will find a method that appeals to enough people and also agrees with your morals. Tutorials sound amazing and i genuinely(and a little selfishly) hope that it will work out!
Thank you. Everyone gets old if they're lucky and as a wiser person than me said, "no one here gets out alive". It's hard but then the longer you live the more you're going to experience loss. Exhibitions are one thing to consider. The way I've managed to freelance so long is a bit of everything: Freelance assignments are one thing but they come when they come. Print sales, book sales, teaching, tutorials etc it all helps. Time is the great equaliser and for me it was always just trying to find a way to keep going, nothing more lofty than that really. I'm charging so little for the tutorials it's not really a business consideration, just something I enjoy doing very much.
