Your videos are great! I was just looking for how to make a plaster board, and got a bonus lesson on a damp box! I’m moving from clay sculpture to pottery but plan to add sculptural elements to pieces. The damp box will be more useful than my current method of damp cheesecloth & layers of plastic method to prolong drying. (My method is useful for larger/heavier/oddly shaped pieces though)

2nd. title for this could be :"Happy hands play in mud like substance." I have a damp box and use my canvas covered concrete table for recycling. Too concerned I would break the plaster. Thanks for sharing this method with the superb teamwork at shaking all over.

Hello Ann, Thanks for the wonderful video! I've already bought your how-to to paint Birds video and I think this is beautiful compliment with all these help classes on RU-vid 🥰 I did have a couple questions though, first of all do you use any kind of soap like diluted dawn to wash the slabs once you've made them ? I'm thinking how do you get the Vaseline off of them without something to break the oil down? And once the box is created do you put water in the bottom of it along with the plaster slab? Occasionally or at the beginning or keep a fill to line of water in it? 🤔 How does the moisture stay in the box and where does it come from? I understand the plaster would initially have moisture trapped in it from the cleaning process...but I would think at some point it would dissipate? Or once you put the pottery in there with the plaster Paris slab does it draw the moisture from the pottery that being the only moisture in the Box? Or does it just equalize the moisture in the pottery from the moisture that is already in the pottery? No additional moisture needed? I think I'm a little lost on this one 😆 Any clarification would be greatly appreciated 😁

Wow, thank you so much first for purchasing the birds video but also for watching the You Tube videos. You are awesome!!! As far as the vaseline goes, I havent had to use any soap to get the vaseline off the slab. I am not sure if the plaster soaks it in but it has not been a problem. I wouldnt use dish soap on the plaster slab for fear it would soak up the suds into the plaster. Like I said I havent tried it, but I suppose there is the possibility the plaster could suds up the next time you put it under the faucet. If. you want to clean out the storage container with the dish soap, you can go for it but thoroughly rinse out the soap before putting the slab back into it.. .... If the vaseline does get onto your clay, it is not a problem. It will fire out in the kiln and you will be able to glaze with no problem.

I assume you do not cover the container for the several days it takes to dry/set? Also, someone suggested to me to get a container with a rubber seal. Is that necessary? They're not easy to find! Love your videos and have shared with friends.
@LittleStreetPottery

Yes, I let it sit for days until the plater sets up. I dont think you have to have a rubber seal...the one I used seemed to work just fine.

Can I use No 1 pottery plaster or does it need to be plaster of Paris to make a mold?
@annruel1982
@annruel1982 3 года назад
Hi Michele. Pottery Plaster is supposed to be stronger than Plaster of Paris and should work great. The thing for me is that I think you have to purchase it in larger amounts like 50 pound bags which would cost about $20 or so. I didnt need that much plaster nor did I want to have to store extra plaster in my studio or throw out the extra plaster .
@Gingy50
@Gingy50 3 года назад
I still dont get it, the plaster has set, but what is the purpose of the chunk's of wet clay that you covered ??
@annruel9142
@annruel9142 3 года назад
Hi Lynsey. Thanks for watching. The plaster has the capability of both drying out clay and holding water in it so that when you seal it in the box with water in the plaster, the water is released from the plaster and will humidify the box. In other words when you put like reclaim clay in the box, it will soak up excess water from the clay but the clay will not completely dry out because of the humidity. Does that make sense? ... This is good for freshly thrown pieces that you want to dry slowly too.

Why plaster of Paris not potters plaster?
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 2 года назад
I believe you can use both and I think Potter's Plaster is actually harder and better for molds. At the same time, more expensive - guess that puts me in the "I'm cheap" column. 😀

Hello... how do you clean your red bucket? I heard that you can bend the plastic bucket to crack it or using metal tool to scrap it. However, I tried doing it to my very thin film of plaster in the bucket, any of these tricks didn't work. How would you recommend? Thank you
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 3 года назад
We don’t clean the bucket...it’s “contaminated” and really only good for plaster use. Virtually impossible to clean but would like to hear from others on how they clean or repurpose their buckets.
