It depends on the waist size and the length of your skirt also how wide your fabric is. The fabric I was working with is 44 inches wide and when you fold it it’s 22 inches. The companies put 1/2 for the selvage part so it 22 1/2 inches on fold. the total amount for my dressform is 22 1/2 (which 12 1/2 length plus 1/2 seam allowance on top makes total 13” and the radius was 9.87 but top of skirt became 9.37 because of the 1/2 added for seam allowance)the pattern was right at the end of the 22 1/2 inch fabric. Thank god that was a close one lol…So if u want to make your skirt longer you will have to open the fabric so you have some length but that means you will have to cut the pattern in half for all 3 skirt patterns. To make it fit the fabric don’t forget to put your seam allowance where u cut. That’s for a 44inch fabric…if u are working with a 60 inch fabric it would be better.

Thanks for this wonderful tutorials. But if i may ask, why can't you just cut one big pattern instead of making 3 and joining?
@drapingclass101
@drapingclass101 8 месяцев назад
It’s because it won’t be enough fabric if it was in one pattern so it’s cut in pieces

I have a question, just so I am clear before I do any cuts....so are you basically making 3 half circles with the pattern, and sewing them together??
@drapingclass101
@drapingclass101 Год назад
You have to cut 3 of them…I only did one because it didn’t make sense to make 3 of the same pattern. I just made one and wrote on the paper to cut out 3 of them.😊

What fabrics are suitable for this design
@drapingclass101
@drapingclass101 Год назад
I would suggest stiff fabric so It looks full maybe brocade, heavy satin like duchess…bridal satin they have other kinds of satin that are heavy weight. 100% Polyester is good fabric…there are some cottons that are stiff. Polyester blended with cotton is not good it’s to thin and soft. But if you are looking for a softer look then get cotton or fabric with lighter weight. Hopefully this helped. 🥰

At 2:05 you say 'this is called the radius' and write the word 'radius'. But circumference(waist measurement)÷pi(3.14) is DIAMETER, not radius. Is there a step missing?
@drapingclass101
@drapingclass101 Год назад
Hi are u talking about when I was calculating the circle skirt radius?...u can call it diameter if u want...pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter...it is an irrational number that approximately equal to 3.14. The radius of a circle is the distance from the center of the circle to the edge of the circle...radius of a circle is the distance from the center of the circle to any point on its circumference...the radius is half of the diameter...hopefully u not confused anymore.
@yukarimurasaki4549
@yukarimurasaki4549 Год назад
So confused. Circumference (waist measurement) divided by pi(3.14) is ***diameter*** NOT radius. But in the tutorial she says the line she's drawing for the circle is the radius. What am I missing here? The math isn't making sense. I get that it's the radius because the corner to the line is definitely radius since diameter would be across the whole middle cutout of the circle. But she's using the math formula for diameter. Wth?:/
