idea, you keep the metal core longer, so it goes into a drill, then wind up the copper, and then cut the piece to length. But overall simple stuff, thanks for sharing.

Hi Thanks for your really useful video, Could you please let me know your valuable thought on the below sentence? Thanks "How we can make an electromagnet as strong as possible? I am assuming we should increase the number of winding, wind the magnetic wires in a shorter length, and increase the current! Then my question is that what possible options do we have to increase the current? I am saying a couple, please complete my saying for a more complete solution... For increasing the current, we can use higher voltage power supply? (Does an AC or DC power supply matter in this regard?) decrease the magnet wire diameter, decrease the total length of the magnet wires, correct? "
@TheTechnocrat
@TheTechnocrat 5 лет назад
Your sentences are right. 1. Increase the number of turns in a shorter core. 2. Increase the current through the coil by increasing the supply voltage. Care to be taken not to exceed the rated current of the wire. AC or DC doesn't matter unless you are using it on the permanent magnet. 3. The impedance of the coil also affects the current, in turn affecting the strength. Ohm's law, electromagnet formula should answer all your questions.

@@muhammadnaufil5237, DC can take you out every bit as much as can AC. You aren't being harmed because the wire you used is insulated. Otherwise, it would short, effectively reducing the length of the wire from the point of the short to the starting and ending points of the wire. Too, that is why you had to burn the insulation off, before connecting the wires to the circuit.

dude that's not 900 to 1200 turns. That's 3200 to 3600 turns. All of your math adds up to it being 3200 to 3600 turns. Even my estimations based on the wire thickness and coils size add up. even the calculations I did for the maximum strength of the magnet at the minimum distance 7*(turns*current)^2*magnetic constant*cross-section area/(2*0.05^2) I derived the 7 and 0.05 (at direct contact the force is 7 times the strength at 5cm distance) based on a chart of magnetic attraction at different distances which showed a change from inverse of the distance squared to approximately linear force around 5cm which is why the force of the magnet isn't infinite when it's sticking to something and I've tested it with many electromagnets already.

Please respond you're the only intelligent person in these comments, isn't the way he's winding the coil making the magnetic field weaker do to him going back and forth with the wire, making the magnetic fields cancel each other out, my coil is about the same size but my iron core is much bigger and mines lifting my weight easy, anyway I've seen alot of videos making coils in this way and it really bothers me cause I've always been told that the back and forth winding cancel each other is this correct?

@potato4dawin1
@potato4dawin1 5 лет назад
@@talonjuel9486 no, it's actually fine to double back on itself because he keeps going around the same way. Using the right hand rule you can see how the magnetic field still goes in the same way. I've done some experimenting with a quarter inch thick nickle metal core (I grabbed the first metal rod I saw and thought it was iron, whoops) and realized that the further the wire is from the core (such as with more layers) the less magnetic force you're going to get out of it, so a thicker core is better. I'm currently looking at using iron pipes as the core so I can multi-layer them inside of eachother for more strength in a compact space.

Hi, great video mate, but I have some queries... How does length and diameter of effect the electromagnet strength? I understand more no of turns are better, so does a smaller dia. core is better? Also what is better having a single layer of coil over a long core or multiple layer of coil over a short core. Thanks.
@phucminh3633
@phucminh3633 3 года назад
Longer will be better but it will waste lot of wire Smaller dia will be better to but it wil become very hot after a few minutes due to the resistance of the wire So the combination between long wire and reasonable dia will give the best performance. And about the layer because the wire is long so we need to make layer over layer, it just effects a little bit so don't worry.

Nice project, looking at the design I think the coil is maybe around 10 ohms, so maybe 1.2 amps which is ok for 1000 turns of 26 gauge you say you use. With that size battery you should use some current control ie an online fuse and you should also deal with the large back emf generated at switching since induced voltage is proportional to rate of change of current and it will be high, this would also help to eliminate rf interference when switching

Right.. the beauty in these diy videos is how they try so hard to put forward thier ideas and make a decent watchable video. 🙂

Using matches doesn't mean that he is poor, but a good way to help poor figures who can't afford to get expensive materials.

heres an idea. get an iron rod about 2 inches longer than needed. rol paper put ends on and leave extra length on on side. then when you wind the the (magnet wire) coated copper wire just hook it up to a cordless drill. those 900 wont be so hard. just estimate the turns with the example he shows

Nice, but why did you take the pain to wind it manually - just could use a drill or motor and make the coil
