Powerful and precise, brackets are the most efficient way to make a chord chart. I'll use Planning Center to show you how I make my charts.

▶NOTE 1: CHORDPRO◀
The bracket format is taken from what is called ChordPro format, which is a full blown mark up language for creating chord charts. Planning Center uses a variation on it and allows you to use a good many of the common ChordPro directives in its "Lyrics & Chords" editing pane.
▶NOTE 2: USING THE CHART ON STAGE◀
I personally use an iPad for displaying all my charts when I perform or lead. I use a chord chart app called Onsong which is integrated with Planning Center. After I create a chart, I import any song or set list into Onsong from Planning Center with just a tap. I will often make tweaks once I get the chart into Onsong, just so that it looks its best with my iPad screen size and with the document/font size, line spacing, and chord colors I prefer.
▶NOTE 3: PLANNING CENTER◀
Planning Center is a set of software tools that my church uses to take care of most of our logistics. I pretty much create all my chord charts using their software. I highly recommend it for helping run a music and tech ministry. The rabbit hole goes deep with Planning Center.
