Beautiful raincoat. Tip if you want it - To get the wrinkles out, try a hair blower, warm up a part of the pvc and cool it down with a heavy book a few minutes. Or use a metal household container of some sort filled with warm water, 40-60 degrees Celsius, and cool down with a book. Look for a container with a flat bottom, and please try on some scraps to get the amount of heat right first. To hot will leave bubbles in the material. (This is the tip I give to my coustomers buying pvc table cloth) Have a nice day
Good job!!! Today I found a lightweight Home Dec vinyl in Joann’s Fabric and with the coupons I got $4.99 a yard. Right away I knew I wanted to make a raincoat with it. I came home and typed in sewing a raincoat and your video popped up.....now I’m really inspired to make it. Thanks for sharing!!!!
That is adorable. What a great idea . For the needle holes, the seam line could be sealed with Fray Check applied with a paint brush on the wrong side of the fabric, I would think or rubber cement might work.
Your so talented at sewing and garment construction, its pretty cool that the raincoat was made out of a tablecloth as well, you've done it very well :) :)
Amazing! Ever since getting rid of my car & catching pubic transport everywhere a good raincoat makes all the difference! I'm excited to make one in the near future ❤
super cute! I never would have thought to use one for a rain coat. The buttons really elevate it. I have not had any luck free styling patterns so I'm just going to find a cute one that I like and give this a go the next time I find a cute PVC table cloth.
I'm so into the idea of making my own raincoat! I've been looking for years but can't seem to find one that looks nice and actually comes in my size. Re: the seams: there's a special type of seam sealing tape you can buy to, well, seal the seams and make them waterproof! Probably a good idea for any rainclothes tbh.
I just discovered your channel, and I lovvveee it! Your colors, and bright atmosphere is so lovely; I’m a fellow blondie, so the light pastels make me happy. 😊
I just received my first sewing machine this Christmas, I am so happy I found your channel. Awesome creativity and you are very talented. Thank you for sharing.
This raincoat is SO beautiful!! I only found your yt 5 minutes ago, but after 2 videos I LOVE your content!! I also love how you thrift a lot of the fabrics that you use, I'm all about reducing waste ☺️☺️
I had an idea to add, you could always dab the stitch holes with a waterproof pvc compatible glue that drys clear or white to match the base color of your coat. All an all it turned out great, and looks good on you too. I hope you get some positive feedback from the creativity that went behind it, you certainly have mine!
You are a professional already!! In my mind atleast. Don't limit yourself. You are an amazing seamstress and right up there with all the rest of the best seamstresses on RU-vid that I watch.
Hey Janelle! I'm a keen (but ammateur) sewer and am loving your videos. Super inspiring! You're such a good teacher and communicate the steps so well. So cool this table cloth gets a new life as a delightful raincoat 👏☔ You go Glen Coco! 😊
I was waching the video and realize we usted have the same pvc tablecloth on the dinner table when i was 13 at my mom house, we are from Argentina so i am shock. I love your channel
I love this sooo much! I’ve always passed up to amazing print retro table cloths in op shops because I didn’t know what to do with them...watch me now! Thanks Janelle :-)
That coat is lovely! It is so great you were able to give the tablecloth a second life. Since making a year ago have you been able to wash it? How has it held up? Would you add a lining next time or keep it one layer? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Steaming in the bathroom while I shower has helped a bit, it hasn’t rained in my country much lately 💔 but I think with wear the creases will come out. As for cleaning, you can just wipe it down with a cloth and I might just try hand washing it if I need to 😊
I love it! Love the idea of making my own rain coat, love the fabric, love the design, I love it all! I’ll definitely give it a try this christmad season. Thank you for sharing ! 👍🏻😉
Take an embossing gun over unwanted holes it will heat the pvc enough to fill holes. And use wondaweb hemming tape over the parts you've hemmed on the sewing machine fo extra durability and water proofing. Also a glue gun is useful for pvc fabrics.
Wrinkles? Ha! Heat up your cloths dryer on low for 10 minutes, then put your raincoat in for 2 minutes. That will heat up the vinyl enough and you can smooth out the wrinkles. Momzilla is in charge of washing all the plastic table cloths after the Condo's Christmas Party!
My friends worked as a pa, she told me if you pack something that wrinkles a lot in a suit case you should roll it around something else (like jersey clothing, underwear etc) instead of folding it. Also you can hang something on a hanger in the bathroom while taking a hot shower.(just be sure it is completely dry before you wear it) I tied both & it does help a lot if you can’t bring an iron or steamer.
Very very nice coat! Just a suggestion, but instead of top stitching, and also with the creasing issue, could you possibly use an iron on the lowest setting and a thick pressing cloth? I have used this method with that type of table cloth in the past with pretty good results. You just have to be really careful.😃
how many metres of fabric would you say this project needs? i’ve found the perfect fabric i’d want to use for this on etsy and i really want to make this but i’m unsure of how much fabric to buy... thankyou!!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I hang it in the bathroom when I shower from time to time to steam it a bit and it’s starting to work! Going to take a while to get the stubborn creases from being folded for decades though haha!
Could you please upload a video of how to cut and sew the hood alone My son would not wear wear the entire suite but I want to add just the hood on his head for the rain
I just found u and i love it and im looking at my table cloth right now 😅 i liked to buy one would u make one for me oh and im a male. Please ill pay for it
