Thanks for doing this. It was clear and concise. Not a lot of annoying talk to take up most of the video. Just the instructions needed. I SO appreciate that. Great closeups, too.

I thought this was great - thank you. And I saw that some people were complaining about that little obstruction in the corner, but i just learned how to sew and even I could clearly see how you did that (and I could figure out how to cut it appropriately). It was very clearly shown and explained in detail - so please don't take it to heart when folks complain. It was a fantastic video and very helpful - thank you!

I make receiving blankets with two pieces of flannel, a yard and a quarter in length, a solid and a print or two different prints. Put flannels right sides together and sew around a ll sides , leaving a four inch opening for turning right side out. Once it is turned right sides out, top stitch around and close up the opening with the top stitching. I made 7 receiving blankets in and hour and a half for my new grandson . Sent them to my daughter in law in VA.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I am a beginner and was able to complete this project with your video! I am making blankets for friends. One thing that may be helpful for the future is to show you sewing from your perspective... I am left handed and it easier to learn when the camera shows you from the angle that you are actually sewing from...just a thought. I love that the satin binding and the sewing of the layers occurs all at the same time!! Very happy with how my first turned out! and it really was a pretty fast project. Thanks again...Cathy

Thank you for this video. I'm embarrassed to say that I should have watched this video before I made my first blanket and gave it at a baby shower this past weekend. I knew something wasn't right about it when I finished it. I used a straight stitch on the inside of one side, turned the satin over that stitch, then went back and stitched over it again, further in along the same side. Then I stitched the other side that I turned the end inside. So, in essence, I stitched the satin 3x! It took forever! I had no idea that the satin didn't require me to turn the ends inside and that I could use a zigzag stitch. That would have helped so much. I feel so stupid! Also, thanks for the help with turning the corners. I had a difficult time with that as well. I hope my next few blankets turn our better than the last one.

You can't see the end where you cut the last of the binding. When you cut the binding and make a mitered corner we don't get to see any ot it.

I love your method for starting & ending at a mitered corner. I am trying to SEE what you did at the very last one. When you make the cut you say 'an inch to an inch & a half' but it looks like you cut at about one half inch. Then when you begin to fold the satin it looks as if it was cut on the diagonal to me -- starting at the 17:28 mark -- ?? I really wish I could see more clearly what you did there. I did one, but it was not easy. I think seeing what you did would help. That last corner, to me, is the most critical part of this tutorial.
@Junctionfabric
@Junctionfabric 9 лет назад
Rita Kollist I do cut at an inch to an 1 1/2. Then fold it to line up with the corner of the blanket. Take the corner of the satin binding and fold it under to give it a mitered look. Do this to the front and the back. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.
@terrilewis3666
@terrilewis3666 8 лет назад
I agree with Rita and others. This was a great tutorial until the end. The angle of the camera blocked the entire end and was very frustrating to figure it out. The last corner is the most critical part. Can you do an "add on tutorial" for the last corner? You would make a lot of viewers very happy!!! Thank you so much!

Washing your fabrics is a personal preference. On the other hand depending on the quality of the fabrics I would launder any of the low quality fabrics and it is not essential on a higher grade of fabric.

junctionfabric.com I don't pre wash at all but if you have any doubts about shrinkage take a small piece of your fabric and cut it into a two or three inch square fabric and give it a good steam pressing.... and read measure your Fabric and it will give you a good idea of the shrinkage you're going to experience if it is significant enough I still would not wash my fabric I would spray with water and give the entire piece of fabric a good steam pressing I don't like removing the sizing that the fabric comes with
