Yay!!! That’s so awesome, thanks for letting me know. Btw it’s much easier to do the cape as instructed on the pattern instead of doing it double layered like the one I did in the video!!
Dude…. Me too. The instructions always feel like they’re in a different language. That’s why it was necessary for me to make my first cloak off camera before making a video hahahaha. But I’m glad I could help!!
I think you're about to save my life! I bought the pattern out of curiosity, cut the pieces out for the style I wanted, then realised that I was having trouble understanding the instructions. You saved my life
Hello!! It is truly not very complicated.. just confusing. As long as you have the proper shape cut out twice according to your pattern then you got it!! I hope my video is helpful. Good luck!!!!!
Coming back to this for my second piece cause i forgot how I did the first one and the pattern is not the most easy to follow 😂 thank you for this! I’m curious cause I don’t sew, but what kind of needle did you use since the fabric is silky?
I believe my liner is crushed velvet and my outside is some kind of soft, fluffy fabric. I'm having trouble with the outside sagging and not being flat to the lining. I've tried sewing panels individually, starting at the bottom, starting on the sides, hanging it up, I'm doing my best to iron. Not working. I've seen capes made of this fabric before and I know it works. How do you avoid the sags?
So interesting. I have to say that your fluffy fabric might be heavier than your liner, and therefore not matching up with the liner?? That is my best guess. My only suggestion would be to sew overtop of both, to hold them together. This would create another seam line. But if it’s going to save your project it’s worth a shot!
I've been working with the same pattern "Simplicity 8721" and as I'm a beginner I've just realised, I think, that the 'double' layer of material means the 'front' and 'back' , at first looking like I've only cut out HALF ... I need to open out to REVEAL that that 'half' is in fact the full "front" and "back". (I was about to sew the doubled material....gulp, realising just in time that I need to OPEN it out.)
Oh my God the diagram/instructions for sewing the hood is literally SO bad that I? just Sewed the corners to give it this Bizarre shape, that i thought would just Work Out when I attached it to the cape. This sucks for me because I was doing this entire thing with a flannel lining inside velvet. am I just supposed to cut it in half now???
Hi there. I’m so sorry you are having a hard time with the hood!!! I hope my video kind of helped. The go along with the flannel and velvet thing.. I would make the hood with velvet like I show in the video, then sew a piece of flannel to one side of the hood while it’s still a weird rectangle shape. Then it should work out. I hope you figure it out!!!!!
So if I’m using a crushed velvet for the outside and satin for a liner, I need 4 velvet panels and 4 satin panels? This is my first time trying to read a pattern and I’m so confused 😂
Hi there! I did silk on the outside and cotton on the inside in this video so that’s perfect! You will need to cut 4 pieces out of the velvet and 4 pieces out of the satin. For the hood, I would suggest using only the velvet and reading the directions very carefully, or just paying attention to the section of the video where I show that. Sorry if it’s not entirely helpful, pls let me know if you have any other questions.
My granddaughter wants me to sew this cape and she wants it out of anti pill push fleece fabric. So sense this is like a blanket fabric and can start getting heavy, Should I line it with the same fabric? Or use a light cotton or satin fabric fabric ? or not to line it at all? I am just confused on what to do,Thank- You
Hello!! Its great you ask this question. The very first cloak I made was out of anti pill fleece. Because that fabric doesn’t fray and it’s for your granddaughter.. I would say you can absolutely get away with not lining it at all! If you’re concerned about unfinished seams you can always use seam tape. If you are concerned then I would suggest using a cotton or satin to line it, but of course it’s up to you!!
Hey! I have not done B but I just looked at the pattern, I’m not sure really what the difference is between A and B. I think B just had an overlay? So you’ll essentially have one cape over the other one before you sew on the hood
@@MacyJacob I used this video to make my cloak for last Halloween, and now I'm making one for a friend, but I think I learned the difference between A and B. B is a high-low thing, short in the front, long in the back, A is even all around the bottom.
Yes, but I think you would have to do French seams all around before doing the invisible stitch. It may get funky around the corners too… but I don’t have much experience in French seams anyway
Macy Jacob yeah I was trying to figure it out if it would work. I have a few yards (there wasn’t a full piece available) so I’ll have to Frankenstein mine together some how. But this video totally helped! The pattern had me so confused on assembly!
