This was a really interesting watch, but after seeing the amount of resources and time that went into it, I think it would be a lot more cost efficient to just buy one from one of the reputable companies for around $60. Most people don't have half of the tools you used :P Really neat though :)

I'm 3 years late but you can sort of skip the wiring and soldering by entirely skipping the board used to control. Just get a 10 dollar argb controller and you can hook it up to that controller.

Great video. I really like the edit and all but if I may give you a feedback, I think adding the cable and the controls to the top right or top left would be better. Since you will move your mouse a lot, the top part will obstruct your mouses cable.

You can also buy a cutting board from ikea but if you don't have the equipment I don't know how you'd go about cutting the LED channels.

Did you connected the led controller directly to the USB port? I'm questioning because the current limit on USB ports is 500mA for USB 2.0 and around 900mA for USB 3.0. Each rgb led draws 60mA and you used a lot of them. How did your USB port hold all this current???

Did u see the biggest problem here?the Matt finish on the vinyl will get smooth and unusable after couple of months!!also the bottom will be slippery for most surfaces.

Amazing 😍 only thing I hate is I wanna do the project today and not wait a few days . so is it possible to do a diy with stuff you would find at places like example walmart the other day I saw leds that goes around your t.v. that does the same as ones you are using . thinking desolder the modules and use something to drive the leds randomly like maybe the circuit to a a light show fan since it works if u hold the spring down

My question is why did you waste so much tape putting it in the middle of the pad when you just took it off later i can understand to hold the LEDs in. But have no clue you put strips in the middle when you wasted later
