What is Paracord?
"Parachute cord (also paracord or 550 cord when referring to type-III paracord) is a lightweight nylon kernmantle rope originally used in the suspension lines of parachutes. This cord is useful for many other tasks and is now used as a general purpose utility cord by both military personnel and civilians.
The yarns of the core (commonly referred to as "the guts") can also be removed when finer string is needed, for instance as sewing thread to repair gear, or to be used as fishing line in a survival situation. The nylon sheath is often used alone, the yarn in the core removed, when a thinner or less elastic cord is needed such as when used as a boot lace. Ends of the cord are almost always melted and crimped to prevent fraying.
In addition to purely utility functions, paracord can be used to fashion knotted or braided bracelets, lanyards, belts, and other decorative items. These are sometimes tied in a fashion that can easily be unraveled for use in a survival situation. Some companies use paracord in conjunction with other survival components to create everyday wearable survival kits.
Hikers and outdoor sports enthusiasts sometimes use "survival bracelets" made of several feet of paracord which is woven into a compact and wearable form. Such bracelets are meant to be unraveled when one needs rope for whatever purpose - securing cargo, lashing together poles, fixing broken straps or belts, or assisting with water rescues. Young survivalists (boy scouts) are also taught the importance of using the paracord as a survival tool.On the other hand, the paracord is a poor choice for an emergency tourniquet as its small diameter will crush tissue without applying the needed pressure to stop bleeding.
Additional uses for parachute cord are in the manufacture of items such as lanyards, belts, dog leashes, rosaries, and key chains. This is becoming more popular as crafters are discovering this material."

PARACORD101 I watched this video several times, greatly appreciating each hesitation of each movement demonstrating how each knot is formed and tied. Thank you for being so considerate, insuring that those watching would have a clear understanding of each movement, thus solidifying this knowledge in their minds. Thank you!

Hi, I am planning on making a guitar sling with this design, that will be 55 inches long. Approximately how much Paracord (of each strand) do you think I will need to do this? Also, what did you mean by "joined" Paracord? Thank you in advance :-)

a general rule of thumb for cobra weave is 1 foot for every one inch of bracelet, belt, etc. Remember, you are always better off with more than you think you need.

I really enjoy your videos and i have not seen all of them yet so i may have missed how you join two separate color cords together. so my question is how do you join them?
@dropdead8886
@dropdead8886 9 лет назад
So, what you do, to join them, is, you get the ends smoldering hot with a lighter or other heat source and then you press the ends together and hold them until they cool
@grimtt
@grimtt 2 года назад
One “smooth” way i have seen is to join them with heat shrink tubes. Like used in electrical work.

I have a 3/4" inside diameter buckle that I am trying to make a survival bracelet with. I want to make one that uses the most paracord possible and still look nice. I have 25 feet to use. The purpose is that I want my survival bracelet to be able to hold as much paracord as possible. What types of braids do you recommend for my size buckle and using as much paracord as possible?

It's been a while since you published this video which is really good, and I am saving it for future reference. But I have a Question and only just a simple question for you and your vid??? Has there been anything you have learned since you published this Vid, that you would like to add as material reference or as additional information to the Vid? It's been almost 2 years, so it's a great time to ask you the question I thought. I am just learning, but thought this would be a great opportunity to ask you this type of question(s) with regards to your Vid. Thanks in advance for what you published. Cheers.....And a Happy New Year for 2018..... :)

With the lengths of cord you say to use (2 X 13 ft. joined), what size bracelet does that come out to be? Usually, an 8 1/4" bracelet fits me perfect. With your caution to use an extra 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches for comfort, where do I need to be? Do I go for a 10 1/4" length? Being a novice, I could use some further guidance. Thanks.
@Paracord101
@Paracord101 8 лет назад
+Kentucky Justice Everyone has a different comfort level. Some people like a loose fit and some a snug fit. You will have to experiment and find out what works for you. I would suggest 10 1/2" to 10 3/4". It may mean making a bracelet and see if it fits. If not, untie and start over. The wider and thicker the bracelet, the more vague adjustments will be needed to comfort on your end.

One method i have used when unsure how much cord I need is to use one set of cord to make the core, just as in the vid, leaving some extra at the top then do your weave with an independent set of cords so the weave is around but not attached to he core. (Notice in the vid that he only anchored the core at one end with a half hitch, the other end is wrapped around the bar but not anchored).This way if you do 10in and it isn’t long enough, just grab each buckle and pull, lengthening your core to continue the weave. Sorry this isn’t very clear!

Trying to do this pattern make me realise how extremely hard I tie when I use paracord, nearly impossible to get the needle through the loops... Start to understand why I allways get blisters. Great pattern though! :)
