Learn how to "resize" your ring at home with nail polish!
Just a word of caution - nail polish can be toxic. Please, please consider using a non-toxic, water based nail polish!
This video is an accompaniment to a blog post. Please check it out for more info on resizing your ring at home! www.natashalh....

This works!!! I have a stainless steel ring ($10) about 1 or 1.5 size too large. It would easily fall off when I lowered my hand. I bought the cheapest clear nail polish at WM for 98 cents. I applied about 20 coats to the inside of the ring about 20 minutes apart to allow to dry. I didn't see or feel any improvement and thought about giving up. But I refuse to be DEFEATED! So I kept slapping on coats and at about 45 or 50 coats, the ring fit perfectly. The polish is totally invisible! Also, I have a Stainless Do Not Resuscitate bracelet and noticed the black lettering was fading. So two coats of nail polish solved that problem and is totally invisible. I believe the clear polish can be slapped on any metal surface to protect from scratches, etc. Obviously not on pots & pans, etc. YMMV. Good luck.

Does this work with mood rings? I have one and I am afraid it won't work if I put nail polish on (sorry for my english)
@the_artisan_life
@the_artisan_life 5 лет назад
I think it's mostly the part of the mood ring that changes color that needs to touch your skin and feel the temperature change. I'd expect this to work fine as long as you only keep it along the back of the ring!

I personally take my rings down one size using this technique. Two sizes might be a bit much, but you can always give it a try! Just make sure the layers of polish are fully cured before adding more.

Is there a way to get the nail polish off the ring by peeling or using nail polish remover or something without damaging the ring?
@the_artisan_life
@the_artisan_life 5 лет назад
Yes, absolutely! The water based polish I used peels off - I've tested it on my rings. You can work a fingernail under one end and then simply peel. There are also gentler removers for water based polishes that don't peel. I'd just recommend making sure you stay clear of the setting with a traditional remover! Most stones should be fine, but fake stones and pearls can be easy to damage with harsh chemicals.

You probably could, if you feel comfortable with that being directly on your skin. I specifically used a non-toxic, water based nail polish to minimize the chances of anything harmful leaching into my skin. I don't have data on how safe cured gel polish is for prolonged skin contact.

Thick coats of nail polish can take a long time to dry. If it won't dry, carefully use nail polish remover (fi needed) to take it off. Water based polish peels off after it's dry, which is healthier and safer!

If there's a thin coating that might chip off with the polish or become damaged with a harsh nail polish remover, then it probably wouldn't be a good choice. If it is actual rose gold or the coating is durable and you use a water based nail polish that peels off, I wouldn't anticipate any problems. I've used this method on actual silver and gold without problems.

Why not just pay someone to resize ... lol
@the_artisan_life
@the_artisan_life 3 года назад
There are many reasons why someone might want to make their ring smaller at home. They might need it quickly, like to wear a specific ring to a holiday party or wedding. They might not have the resources to take their ring to a jeweler for resizing. Or they might not want to spend the money getting a ring resized if it's not particularly valuable and worth the cost. And, of course, they might not want the ring cut into if it's special to them.
