I use a clean thick welders glove on my hands when drawing long wire that is too long for the shop. Wrap it around until you have a "grip". It doesn't hurt too much. No marks whatsoever and no pausing marks. Oil of Wintergreen is great in drawplates - good for burnishing also. Thanks for sharing!

I don't understand how cheap rope chains are compared to the amount of hardwork that goes into them. Are jewelers underpaid or are most pieces made with machines? This is much more labor intensive than I imagined
if you don't want your metal to crack after the pour,, slow down the cooling process by placing the hot metal into a bowl full of Lost wax investment plaster,,, slow cooling makes it soft like butter when you put it in the wire mill. try it

soft yes, easy, not necessarily. in my experience it depends on what your doing. I have more consistency with gold than silver, therefore, gold is eaier to work with than silver, IMO.
