Seeing this tutorial 11 years later and it gave me a laugh because Joanns is STILL the best place to find seasonal clearance tablecloths LOL. Thank you so much for this video! 💗
Susan, thank you so much. I actually have an 8ft round bed. When I bought it in the early 70ties I purchased the sheets, tailored bedspread, etc. Back then they were available at a decent price. So, now I'm stuck with making my own sheets. Even though this was not a video for this, you helped me tremendously with a better way to cut the fabric and most importantly the elastic to use and to sew with the zigzag. Thank you, so much.
Susan, this is perfect! I've been 'surfing' the web for 16-20 inch vinyl elastic fitted tablecloth for my very small short bistro table for my deck so I can enjoy some coffee, etc. outside in the morning. There is no such thing on the internet. I happened to come across your video and am elated that I can make my own, no matter what size and I agree that the elastic quick tutorial was terrific! Thank You!!!
I bought my daughter a round circular bed (75 in wide). Round sheets are RIDICULOUSLY priced. Gonna use this to make her sheets from my old queen size top sheets! Thanks so much for this!!
Thank you for this helpful video! I have followed your video instructions and made a tablecloth for my daughter's kitchen table that gets a lot of abuse with her young children. I also made 2 additional ones for their desk and play tables. Now it's time to make one for my table.!!!
Ohmygosh! Thank you SO VERY MUCH for this tutorial! Exactly what I needed. I have a rectangular patio table, but I think I can adjust for that. Thanks, again!
Hi, thanks for posting this video. I made a cover for my oval table but I did need to make it slightly bigger as my first attempt (the same size as the table top) would not go round the table. With a inch extra all the way around it hugs the edge much better and stays put. Now to do one for my square table...
Your video was so helpful! Thanks for putting this info out there to help others! The elasticized tablecloths are so expensive to buy, so really appreciate your great video!
I was looking all over the youtube to find how to sew round tablecloth no one explained it better except two ladies and you are one of them thanks for sharing .
Thank you....really appreciate the video. I would have liked to see you put in on the table afterwards...like "Voila....check out the fit"...after seeing it made. But much appreciated...
My mom always sent me a table cloth for the seasons and always sewed elastic in for me. After she passed, I looked online to buy and they are so EXPENSIVE! I haven’t had one since. Maybe i will give it a go! She would be proud. 😊
Thank you so much Judy. I have made so many. I make a new one for every holiday! I have made them as gifts and for my neighbor, who has a glass table top and 2 small children. I think it saved her from buying a new table.
Susan, thanks for the video. Since my table is 65 in. diameter including going over the lazy susan in the middle, I used a shower curtain liner in order to get it big enough. I plan on putting it in the washing machine when needed, we get a lot of pollen here in the Houston area, and reusing it, I don't plan to have it on the table when eating, just to keep the table clean in between. I'm glad I found your video.
Your the best. I am so glad you were so very clear. I am using this for my 3rd tablecloth that you showed in such detail. Thank you for your hard work... Much appreciated....
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I used a machine-washable cotton and it worked just as well (I serged the edge prior to adding the elastic in order to prevent fray). The fit was perfect, and it only took me a few minutes. I really appreciate that you took the time to make this video and share it.
Thank you! Love your down to earth, no-fuss delivery. Am in Toronto, Canada. No way are we enjoying outdoor living until mid May. But, I am all set to make a few of these for the summer season, when we eat dinner on the back porch every night. I scour the local thrift store for indoor/outdoor fabric, or ends of vinyl in the fabric stores. My table is 48", and I will add a little X hole in the centre for the umbrella to go through. Thanks!
Thanks!!! I have been looking for a fitted tablecloth for my 42' round table....you rock!!! Now I wanna see if a friend can make this happen for me!!!! I got my fingers crossed!!!
Hi Susan: Thank you so much for putting this video on-line. I used my 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath & Beyond; got a couple of pretty tablecloths and followed your instructions. $10 each for tablecloth and $1.50 for the elastic from Walmart. They turned out great. We live in Alberta, Canada so pay a bit more for everything here. The ready made fitted tablecloths were around $50 with shipping on-line and you can't find them in the stores. Thanks again, Claire
This site was extremely helpful! So easy to make! The only suggestion I would have is to use string instead of yarn when measuring. The yarn stretches. What a great idea to make them out of store bought tablecloths! I went to Christmas Tree and got one for $2.99!
This is exactly the information i needed. Thanks for suggestions as to where to buy as well as your great detailed help with making these tablecloths .
Have you ever tried to make a table cloth out of an old sheet? I ask because I have a duvet that does not stay in my bed ,and I dont use it. And I love the material I want to learn how to use that and put the clear plastic ontop of it.
Hi Amelatta, I have not but you can for sure. They sell iron on clear vinyl at Joanns and Walmart. I have used it when I made chair pads. Very easy to do. Good Luck!
So, if I'm making one for a rectangle picnic table, I should sew the elastic around the corners and short ends. Like a fitted bed sheet. Thank you for this idea!
Awesome video! I made one for our dining table with a leaf in it. Perfect fit. Now we have a smooth, easy to clean surface on which to play cards and board games. Finishing another for our patio table. Thanks for posting this :)
You are so welcome! Do you mean a cloth tablecloth? A cloth tablecloth would fray unless you finish off the edges. You can do that with a zigzag stitch or serge the edges.
Hi Susan, I was glad I found you again. I followed your video last year and made a summer tablecloth for my patio table. It's metal mesh, so I just left it on all the time. They are so cheap I don't mind replacing every year. It's fun to have so many options to choose from all the summer patterns. This year I'm going to make a Fallish one for Sept/Oct. I live in Ohio so we use our patio until mid to late Oct.
Love your idea. Can't wait to do that with my Christmas print flannel-backed vinyls !! We had stopped using them cos they slid all over. Now I know what to do to make them fit and still look great!
Hi, I'm enjoying your videos. Question....you say your table is 52" round, yet you cut your cloth 52" round. Shouldn't the cut piece be an inch or two larger? Thanks!
Susan I have the same question regarding the rectangular table. Can I use the same concept just measure my table, for instance my table is 78x42, and sew the elastic on to fabric? Or should I add an extra inches since it's a thicker wood table, , , thank you for making this video, very helpful. I love the fact that you make one for your sister in law :-)
That Staghorn fern in the back ground looked beautiful. I have never seen one grown indoors. probably because I live in San diego. Here they are grown in part shade moist spots. Thanks for video. I needed this info
GenBree Pine hi. I forgot all about that staghorn, since I made this video da long time ago. I took a piece from my daughters very large one, in Florida. I did not survive here in PA.
Thanks! I'm trying to cover, in a very simple way, a saucer chair. I have known what I wanted to do, but have been baffled as to how! This technique will work, though I will make it a lot looser for sitting in the chair!
I'm still confused about this. If the table is 48" across and you cut a 48" circle, how do you have enough fabric to go over the edge of the table and underneath it? Shouldn't you add a few inches to the yarn when drawing your arc?
My table is 52" Karin. I cut my yarn at 26". I don't really have a lip on my table so the 26 works for me. I think I say to add inches if your table has a thick edge. Hope this helps
Hi Susan, Great tutorial! Thanks for posting it. I'm just getting the hang of my new sewing machine and this was a good step 1! Any plans of doing a tutorial for a square table? I just followed your tutorial but for my square table and the result was not perfect but your video gave me a good idea of what I needed to do. Still I had a little bit of a problem with the measurements (It was a little short on the sides because it has space to fold under the table) and I'm having a little problem on how to do the corners (also the vinyl kind of stretches a little bit there). I hope you can give me some tips or tricks that can help me make the next cover even better! Thanks!!
I use your video to make the tablecloth for my mini patio set. The table is 26" round. You really cannot find that size and if you do it is very expensive. My first one that I made lasted 2 years.
Is there a ratio of tablecloth circumference to elastic, i.e., 52" circumference, cut 42" of elastic...? Or just starting with the elastic and pulling tight? Thanks. Good vid.
Wow, Thank you so much for this video. Took the day off did some deep cleaning, I have six cats🐈🐾 and my dining room table belongs to them but I'm getting so tired 😭of the cat hair and dusting. Laundry and vacuuming are easy but I can't throw my table into that mix😵😄. I'm about to reupholster my dining room chairs and I thought wow wouldn't it be awesome to have a tablecloth to go with, but I hate table covers that hang. Thank you for posting this tutorial, I will definitely follow you as my guide, wish me luck. 🙏
hahaha, I hate hanging tablecloths too. When the vinyl tablecloth gets scratched or a rip in it I throw it away and make a new one. Good Luck!! You are so welcome!
Hi Susan, my table is 42 inches round and 1 1/2" overhang. When using vinyl, should I allow extra inches for the overhang? Also I am making one using Polyester fabric. How much extra inches should I allow using this material. Thank you so very much.
Pat, Do it exactly the same except when you cut, cut 1/4 to 1/2 inch bigger, Fold and iron the fabric on the line that you drew and add elastic. Good luck
Enjoyed your video. I want to make a cover for a board and am stapling quilting material and will cover it with furry material. for my cats of course. thank you for the input. Think I'll cut it at least 2-2.5 inches wider, staple the batting and cover with a removable cover so I can wash it.
So glad I found your video! I just decided to make round tablecloth, cut the circle (purchased the vinyl at JoAnn) and got stuck - I didn't know if should I hem it and put the cord inside to tie it... You saved me! Go to find some elastic!
Susan, love this video - it looks so easy! I came upon it while looking for help for my oblong kitchen table. Do you have a video for a rectangular table? My 42x64" table is somewhat bowed on the long sides, and I don't have a clue where to begin! Thanks.
Susan, thanks for sharing. I was wondering if I could put elastic on the edges of a regular round tablecloth to make it a fitted tablecover and found this. It is awesome that I found this video. Thanks Again
Susan I really enjoyed watching your video how to make a round fitted table cloth. I have a round teakwood table that is very old, it's 41.5 " round, and I want to cover the top with a cloth table cloth. I don't have a sewing machine. I am not from the sewers. I am only into gardening and knitting at the present time and working on a web site for donations to the Arthritis Foundation. any suggestions about the linen fitted table cloth. thanks Rebecca
Yay I did it! I don't have a lot of sewing experience, so I had a little trouble. I felt like I needed a third hand. Any suggestions on how to keep the elastic tight and keep close to the curved end? Thanks again!
I would put the tablecloth on the table upside-down and trace the shape of the top of the table. Then before you cut it draw another line 2 to 3 inches from the original line. That will be your cutting line. Add elastic just like I do in the video. Hope this helps.
Hi, I use vinyl because I can wipe it clean. I buy already made tablecloths and cut them the size I need. I would suggest you doing the same with cloth. Then you know it's for a table!
+Ann k Did you buy vinyl or use a vinyl tablecloth? I buy them at Joann and only use them for the holiday/season then chuck them. However I did buy good solid vinyl from Joann's and Hancock and that holds up great!! I have a metallic gold fabric backed vinyl on there now from last christmas! It is just a little heavier. christmas tree shop has cute ones BUT oh so thin and rips so easy.
I tried this and it turned out way too small. Any suggestions? Did I pull the elastic too tight? My table is 33.5 inches round. Made my yarn length 16.75 which is exactly half the size of the table.
Her video leaves out an important piece of info I think. She has a thin glass table and she is stretching/melting the tablecloth in the dryer, so it fits taut. I can see how hers would pucker if it went underneath the table - because there is no edge for the tablecloth to fold over. I am getting ready to try this with my table which is 70” diameter and 1” thick. I plan on cutting my fabric at 37 1/2” ..So, 35” (half diameter) + 1” (table thickness) + 1 1/2” under table edge and elastic). I’ll post how it turns out. I’m trying it with something cheap because it may be a mess!
@@pamelascoles9505 you want the tablecloth to be very tight. To add 3" would be to much fabric. When you sew on the elastic, you are jus sewing it on the edge not folding it under.
I am interested in making a clear vinyl tablecloth. I have one on my table that needs to be replaced. What should I do so not to tear the vinyl? Thanks
@@rosebunnylove I am trying to post a pic of the tablecloth but can’t add a photo. Send me your email address and I will send it to you. Sorry it took so long.
What a great idea! If there is a lip around the top of the pool, account for that. If there is no lip I don't know what will stop the cover from coming off.
