I'm curious about the choice of zipper, why not use something that seems more heavy duty, like the Lenzip #10 White Continuous Molded Tooth Zipper Chain? Which would best withstand UV?

We used a #10 Coil Zipper instead of a molded tooth zipper. Why? At the head of the sock we created a makeshift "zipper starter pin" with a hot knife, we did this by melting the coil teeth of the zipper. That cannot be done with a molded tooth zipper. Also sliders on coil zippers often slide more easily than molded tooth zippers. We also created a flap of fabric to cover the zipper's teeth to prolong the life and protect them from the sun.

That's a great project Eric, only last week I decided I'd make a Genoa sleeve as my UV strip is needing replaced, and I like the sail to be lighter for sailing in light winds. I'll making this on my LSZ-1. Regards from Scotland. David

For a 40'6" length how long should the sleeve be. This is not covered on the video. Building one for a friend from your kit and I am afraid of trimming the material to length too short after sewing the 2 halfs together. Thank you.

At 1:02:25 min you will see the calculation for the finished length of the genoa sleeve. The calculation is as follows: Luff Length + 9” = Cut off length at Bottom Edge

@@SailriteDIY عندي الكثير من الأسئلة. سأطرحها في الفيديوهات المناسبة. I have a lot of questions. I'll put it in the right videos. The videos of sailrite are actually distinct and creative. I'm taking great advantage of you. Thanks.

How long would you estimate this to take to complete for a somewhat experienced sewer?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 3 года назад
I could make one over the weekend, working a total of about 6 to 8 hours.

That looks like Anchor’s Way marina! That’s where I keep my sailboat. Nice job! Wish you would have come over to mine and “demonstrated” how to build a dodger. Lol

You are correct it is Anchors Way marina!

Does one hoist this with the spinnaker halyard?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY Год назад
Yes, that halyard line will raise the sock.

In addition, how long should the pocket be. Thank you.

If you watch the video at 30:15 mins you will see a calculation for the pockets length. It is: (Luff Length + 9”) - 63” = Finished Pocket Length

The only gotcha I see is not having a pin and box at the top of the zipper. The wind can force the zipper to come apart. (Don’t ask me how I know). Once that happens you have a potential disaster on your hands.
@SailriteDIY

Yes, that is way we use a webbing strap with buckle to keep the zipper end together.

It seems that he pulled the zipper apart at one point. What I did learn is that I would not own a sail boat. That was a lot of work. Lol. I need to make a bag about the size of a large banana, put something inside and zip it up. Then, I need to pull the zipper apart to allow what is inside to come out. I can’t unzip the bag during the process. I just need to pull the teeth apart.

Hi Bob, Sorry to hear this. Let me look into this for you. Did the customer service rep assign you a support case number? If so, please give that to me and I will check to see how we can help you.
