I think you may well be surprised how much weight it will support. When I Fitted Ikea units upstairs in my house I had to make a 2" hole top and bottom of an Ikea wall unit to fit lighting. I was surprised to see the base and top is a sandwich of the honeycomb paper layer. Also the table tops (£15-£25) are a sandwich of the same. So they use the same material for packaging as they do to make the furniture! I compared them it was exactly the same stuff!😊 Great video and I may have a go next time I have some more. The Russ Andrews Torlyte support base and shelving is a similar construction. Very Good job. Excellent video, I enjoyed it, Thanks.
as mentioned in the comments already , ikea lack use this same construction , they have been recognised for a long time as the best support for turntables and other vibration sensitive equipment since way back in the early 2000s by russ andrews and pretty much every lp12 owner , stacked lack table tops with sorbothane between the two lack top sections of the lack tables is particularly good for rega and project type non suspended turntables.. the kallax record shelves are the same also , but they have the advantage of mass loading with the records themselves . all the best 😘
I recently bought a shelving system from a company called Regal Raum (German for room), and after cutting into a shelf I discovered the same kind of paper core, framed by thin particle board sheets. The edge pieces are inset and prevent any crushing. The claim is they will bear as much as 40kg, or 88 pounds.
I'm still wondering how silent the disk drive unit itself is. In my limited experience, those cheap and old disk player mechanisms, of any kind, can and usually do make a lot of noise, and that can't be cured with a base or footers.
