GREAT video and presenter/educator! :D I have been seeing a lot on the web lately about using sergers for quilting, I like that this quilt is so easy to make, I'm definitely going to make one, or two!, when I return from retreat next week! Thanks!

I think using this technique with “as you go and having the entire quilt finished would be perfect. I enjoy Kaffe Prints as well.

Love this video and will start one right away! She is also adorable! Question: would using a 3 thread overlock have any advantage over 4? Less bulk? Not sure it would be strong though..
@sewingstudiofl

You could definitely piece together a quilt using a three thread overlock. You are correct, it would be les strong, but when you piece together a quilt top using a sewing machine it is only with one stitch as well so comparatively it would be fairly similar.

Thank you so much for the wonderful instructional video. I just found this, so may be too late to ask... where did you get the felt for the wall? Thank you .
@sewingstudiofl

Hi! The felt Gabriela put on the wall is just normal felt.

How many strips are in the jelly roll you used? I know there are different size jelly rolls. What is the finished size of your wall hanging? Love this
@sewingstudiofl
@sewingstudiofl Год назад
Hi! For this particular quilt she used one jelly roll that had 40 strips in it. The size came to a small lap quilt or large baby quilt approximate size. If you want a bigger quilt just get more than one jelly roll! Happy sewing!

Do you experience a thicker seam when quilting over the serged seams?

Hi Sharon, there is no video for that other quilt made by us, but you can find the pattern here: sewing.net/products/block-talk-sgd056 It is beginner friendly and a quick make! Happy sewing!

Hi Christine, I chose to use this as my backing: sewing.net/collections/kaffe-fassett/products/kaffe-fassett-coll-august-2021-pwgp177-pink BUT you can use any fabric you like!

I quilt but what is the advantage of serging the seams?
@RobinSampsonMcCarthy
@RobinSampsonMcCarthy 2 года назад
speed, strength, no fraying, and neatness
@sewingstudiofl
@sewingstudiofl 2 года назад
Hi there! It is just a different method! Robin explained it nicely below, a serger is usually very fast, and the seams stay strong in the serger stitch. You can also make this quilt on a normal sewing machine! Hope this helps!

Can't you just drop the blade to be sure it doesn't cut?
@sewingstudiofl
@sewingstudiofl Год назад
Hi! Yes you can drop the blade. Sometimes we like to cut off just a LITTLE bit, but if you don't want to cut any fabric off dropping the blade is a sure way of controlling that.
