Hi, Robert here!
In this Repurpose and Reuse video I use several cheap items found at my local Walmart to make a powerful bow for hunting or survival for under $10 using my Swiss Army knife.
Hope you enjoy the video! If so, please subscribe to my channel for weekly videos where I repurpose and reuse items I find or buy second hand to make new creations.
You can also visit my website at RepurposeAndReuse.com.
Thanks for watching guys, now go out there and Repurpose and Reuse!

Try something else for the bowstring. The biggest drawback to using paracord is that the cord itself has alot of stretch to it you can visibily see the string giving before the limbs do in the video
@repurposeandreuse7963
@repurposeandreuse7963 2 года назад
Great suggestion. I didn’t even realize paracord had so much stretch in it but I imagine I lose a lot of power from excessive elasticity in the cord. May try my hand at braiding my own cord next! It’s not a bad substitute in a survival situation, but then again, when are you going to be next to a Walmart in a survival situation also lol! Thanks for watching!

It doesn't matter. Want a heavier draw weight, you add another FG stake. Works even better if you stagger them so there is a more even bend and less mass at the tips.

Awesome job and great ideas! One suggestion though is I would move away from using vanes on the arrows and use feathers. They will fold going across the zip tie rather than hit and pop the nock end of the arrow up.

@@repurposeandreuse7963 Thank you for replying to my post and sharing your knowledge of your Native American heritage. It seems to me, 30 - 35 pounds doesn't seem like enough power to kill anything except small game and you would have to be very close to it to do that. How about doing a real world test ? I'm interested in primitive weapons. I would like to see accurate poundage and speed of that bow as well as arrow length vs draw length, arrow weight, point weight and shaft diameter. Basicly, I would like to see more detail regarding that complete weapons system. Who knows, at the rate things are going, we all maybe needing the skills and tools it take to construct a bow like that and the arrows that go with it. Your quiver was also interesting and a detailed video from start to finish would be very interesting. I would like to see you kill the animal, skin it, tan it's hide and you show how to sew it up and decorate it in it's best Native American colors and finery ! I would also like to see how the arrow heads of the different periods are made and how they attach to the arrow. Also how you keep the arrow from splitting in two when fired from the bow. That would be the knock on the feathered end of the arrow. I find all this facinating and would like to learn a much as possible about the progression of Native American weapons and how they were made back in their time . I hope my post will inspire you to continue demonstrating your knowledge, skill, culture and heritage to the rest of the world and show how truely advanced your people really were . Thank you so much for your part in educating us, your audience, on how your people lived and thrived for so many years. I'm sure it will be an inspiration to us all.

Very good video. I make Red Oak Mollegabet Bows out of red Oak boards from Lowes. I will have to try this just for the hell of it. My only suggestion would be to make a nice continuous loop string out of braided fishing line rather than use paracord. Good job, and God bless ya!
@repurposeandreuse7963
@repurposeandreuse7963 2 года назад
Thank you Joe! I’m definitely going to have to try the bowstring out of fishing line hack, the paracord has too much stretch in it, but will work in a pinch I guess. I’m sure your bows take a lot of time and skill, I’m gonna have to look into that!! I really appreciate the feedback, take care and thanks again. Robert
@joedaniels4646
@joedaniels4646 2 года назад
@@repurposeandreuse7963 I don't know about a braided fishing line used "in a pinch" per se. I guess, but I I make them like any continuous loop string made the normal way on a jig I made. I use 90 or 100lb test for 5 or 6 loops giving it 500 lb tensile strength at the loops and 1,000 lbs for the string itself which is overkill for the bows I make between 25 - 40lbs. I also serve the loops and center where I nock the arrows. Actually of all my video's the one I did on making a bow string out of braided fishing line has the most views by a few thousand more than any other video I have made! Braided fishing line will not stretch so you have to make sure your nocks can handle it. I'm actually in the middle of making a double Mollegabet / Penobscot bow where I will have to make a couple of short strings for the shorter bow that will sit piggyback on the main bow ... never made one before but the cool thing about the Penobscot bow is that you can make it adjustable so that it can be set for different draw weights! Anyway, sorry for the long message - God bless you my friend!

Just curious about your estimated poundage at full draw, i had a bunch of these rods i used the strongest of the bunch to make a sweet ultralight bow thats very accurate and gets good arrow speed, then with the next strongest two rods i made this bow only traditional war bow look with packing tape underneath to lock them then black duck tape to fully wrap then leather wraps to brace the middle and tips, both are sweet bows that shoot great. I was pleasantly surprised myself. My lates is a single rod same length but half inch thick, its way strong definitely warbow stong. The three make a great set

you cut the grooves for the bowstring directly into the fiberglass rod(s) and created a potential weakspot, no ?
