New Orleans native Charlie Andrews demonstrates on how to make a Sweet Potato Pie from scratch. This pie is associated with the African American community and the southern areas. It is a staple of the Soul Food cuisine. This recipe serves about 8 to 10 or more servings of pie. Not only is this a Traditional Holiday Southern classic but it is absolutely delicious. I made 2 sweet potato pies using Charlie recipe. I also added a tbsp of Adam's vanilla cinnamon sugar. Then added filling to pie shell. And it was amazing. I no longer have to buy pies from anyone or wait till Thanksgiving. My family ate 2 whole pies in a day and a half, lol. I am currently making two more pies!!

Thank you, Charlie, for this recipe! I would like to add a suggestion. After removing the skin from the sweet potatoes, you can place them inside a blender with the evaporated milk. This will remove the strings from the sweet potatoes, and cut your time in half. I hope this helps everyone ❤️

A coworker brought a sweet potato pie to work that she had made . When I tell you it was so DELICIOUS!!!! I said to her "girl I need that recipe" she said when I get home, I'm text it to you. I made your pie several times and today was no different. I tried a technique my grandmother taught me in the 80's that makes the potato flavor pop. I follow your recipe to a T and added 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice. Amazing!

Charlie you are my inspiration. I started baking after my mom died in 2018 and my sister 6 months later. Growing up my mom cooked and baked but she did some stuff from the box. Baking has turned into my happy place ☺ I baked the sweet potato pie (your recipe) and it was so damn delicious. Now I have 4 friends asking me to bake them one for Thanksgiving. My heart is broken 💔 but I know my mom is proud that I'm cooking and baking more. I bake for others because I'm not trying to get thick(er)😀

A million sweet potato pie recipes on the internet & yet yours is the closest to my mother's! TY SO MUCH 4 this! This is very sentimental for me b/c my mother passed away & 4 the longest time no holiday gatherings we're done @ the family home. Now my brothers & I r picking up that tradition & inviting ALL the family over @ her home. This is more than pie 4 me...this NOSTALGIA! I 4got 2 post when I 1st tried & made this. Nice recipe! I usually put my frozen pie 🥧 crust in the oven to take the moisture out and let the bottom dry out completely, so the bottom is not gummy when the pie is done.

Without ever eating your pie, I know it's good! That beating the sweet potatoes 6 times to get rid of those nasty strings, that how we do it in my family too! Sweet potato pies was some serious business in my family (really all food was). It was drilled in our heads that don't nobody want to eat no pie with some strings in it, lol! I watched my mom make sweet potatoe pies for years. She always made sure the strings were gone, and she always used a little flour along with eggs to better hold the pies together. Of course the pies didn't last long. She had a lot of experience as a cook, and was very good at it.

Boiling a 5 or 6 inch sweet potatoe....is going to give you 5 to 6 inches of 'string'... that 'needs' to be removed......Every Time! Peel your sweet potatoes first, cut them into 1/4 or less circles...end to end, then boil. Cutting them into thin circles...shortens the length of the fibers (strings).... You get a pie that's isn't "stringy" while keeping the nutritional value, Found to be present IN sweet potatoe Fibers!

OMG Charlie! Made this today & it was the bomb! It held together well when sliced & it was smooth! Added some coconut flakes in my mix & topped a slice with whip cream & a pinch of cinnamon & left the planet! I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I made the pie last night and when I woke up to finish my Thanksgiving dinner, my man ate half of it. Luckily I made 2 pies. I am so thankful. Brother I love got to tell you I got tired of asking my peeps to make me a pie so I decided to make my own using your recipe... Let me tell you, IT WAS THE BOMB 💣!! I did use a pre-made pie shell, but I followed your directions to a tee!! Everything turned out perfectly!! THANK YOU!! You have a new fan!! You are so calm..you explain all of your information so simple. What person can go wrong.Also to brown the edges a little more ..you can use a pastry brush and but some butter around the edges to brown the crust.

I have to agree w/u, my only complaint is when he starts that ??????? banging on that table. That is annoying, if I could, I would snatch Charlie from that table & beat the tar out of him. I realize that the food must be good, but to beat on that table 15 times is totally unacceptable. People love good sex but theyre not going to on a table or drum or what have u. U can get a point over w/o beat urself or object to pieces. Please control urself, there are other ways to show ur pleasure, w/o being charged w/first degree murder. Like The Supremes & The Temptations sing "Try It Baby"!
