I bought 2 heavier type cloth shower curtains to use for my fabric. I found the canopies were about the same price as the curtains were on sale, but couldn’t find the same size , or style of canopy. Thanks for your tips. I agree that bringing the canopy inside is a good idea, and will make it easier to make a pattern out of.
A little cutting here, a little sewing there, and voila, Bob's your uncle....a new canopy! Well-done!!! P.S. I LUV recycling things and bringing them back to life. Your channel is a MUST for recyclers!
Great video again. Very nice tree in your garden there, and I love the the way dogs get involved into everything especially when they think you’d be better of using a ball!!!!
Good video Vikki. That fabric is amazing to not tear or rip. That definitely is the way to go for an awning for, your swing. Thanks for sharing and I love all,of,your videos and the way you present them. Great job!
The Carpenter's Daughter Really? I’m in the market for that right now. I definitely will check it out. I’m sure not much of a “sewer” at all is the big deal!! Where there’s a will there’s a way as they say. Thanks so much!
I think I even read a review about this one on Amazon holding someone's weight. Once I work our the best way to make one, I might give it a go because my fiance keeps hogging the swing chair 😂
The Carpenter's Daughter SO funny! I am a larger woman so I have to take that in mind. I first had one of those "rope" settle and it stretched SOOOOO BBBBBAAAADDDD! Not good for me.
Hi Vikki, greetings from germany ! I watch your channel to learn some english and of course some manual tricks. nice swing chair in german it call Hollywoodschaukel ;) great videos
Thanks! :) I love that my videos are also encouraging you to learn English! I wish I could speak other languages. It's funny to see it is named after Hollywood :D
It took a lot of balls to make that video! An idea for keeping the flaps down, you could have sewn some non-rusting chains into the seams to add a bit of weight.
🤣 yes, I did consider sewing on some string inside the hem or a piping, but went for the quicker option. But thanks so much for the suggestion - hopefully it can come in handy 😀
Hi Vickie,It's your friend Milo from across the pond in Washington state.Have you considered doing some merchandise for your channel? I would buy a Carpenters Daughter T-shirt!..I would also buy loads of Carpenters Daughter (carpenter pencils); and pass them out to my friends. You could charge more for hand signed ones, I would buy them also! ...Love to you and yours!..Milo
Thanks :) T-shirts is definitely something I plan on making very soon! I've created my own artwork and had a couple of sample t-shirts done from a printers to wear at Makers Central recently. If you haven't seen it, you can see me wearing one here :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YpKl1XuPY7c.html. However, they weren't at a price I'd be comfortable charging to people and didn't quite fancy transfers. So I have now bought some screen printing equipment to create more personal ones, but also think it would make a great DIY video too :) I'll keep you posted, but have promised to complete our utility kitchen first 😆
well...after throwing my frame away ... (doh!!🙈) I now find you !! how annoying is that ? it's too late for me.. but I liked your clear descriptions/instructions and tips ! Great job... just wish I'd kept my canopy frame (I kept the swing and my daughter recovered the cushions...with some fabulous fabric which is uv resistant) I've got enough to make a canopy too... just don't have the metal frame for it 🙈
Great video.. I actually made my own as well.. but just stuck the new one to the old one..does look slightly tatty when you look up from the swing but I don't have a sewing machine and definitely wasn't going to hand sew it... it also gives greater shade..
Nicely done, Vikkie. I wouldn't have known where to start. ;-) I liked the clarity of your audio in this one - using a microphone does make a huge difference in anyone's video. Missed the background music in this one but enjoyed it otherwise with the constant ball counting.
Thanks and well spotted!! I film most of my projects on a budget, apart from my foodie DSLR of course, but thought it was about time for a microphone. I got so sick of having to do more takes due to street noises during intros, so finally bought a Boya by-m1 from Amazon and have been very impressed! It was recommended by Andy of Tales From the Tinkerage. Will make a note about music for next time 😀
Thanks for the video. I'm not finding a replacement canopy to fit without paying half the price of the bloody swing itself. Btw. Love your dog helping....lol.
Another great video, but at 4:14 the noise you let out picking the balls off the floor, :-) I remember doing the exact same noise when I hit around age 30 getting up off a chair, :-) that's it I thought, am getting old now, lol, funny enough my son made the same noise last week getting up off a chair and he is a 29 year old keep fit nutter. 😄😄😄
Great video Vikki, we have to do the same. Thanks for telling about this fabric didn't know about it. What thickness did you choose and what you think would be better?
Thanks! 😀 This was 60 grams per square metre. I'll try and weigh roughly a metre of my older ripstop for you tomorrow which is much thicker than this (It's in the garage), but I regret not buying 110gsm as a minimum which I think would have a nicer weight to it. A lot of people use this fabric to make hammocks too.
I've weighed the star-printed ripstop I bought from a fabric shop and it's roughly about 300-400gsm and cost me about £7.66 a square metre. I've just had a quick search online and this website looks good: www.profabrics.co.uk/search?q=ripstop* Hopefully you have a fabric shop near by that has some too :D
Hi Vickie, another great video! :) I was wondering if you got a chance to ask your mother-in-law about the type of trees to plant in the garden? Thanks x
Cheers for the fabric tip, I'd probably have gone for a canvas & worked too hard. Do you know if this fabric has a UV rating? It gets extremely hot here & UV levels are high most of the time, causing ordinary fabrics to disintegrate in next to no time.
Thanks Warren. Yes, this one I used was 60gsm and worked out my other ripstop fabric was around 300ish gsm and what a difference. I rather fancy making a hammock soon 😁
We have a problem with wind here. I have to take off the canopy or the wind will blow my swing off the deck. Do you have that problem? Is the fabric wind friendly? I'm interested hearing if anyone else has the wind problem, and what they did to their canopy top to prevent the wind from blowing their swing over.
The Carpenter's Daughter .. Brilliant 😀 what was the family called from south shields?? You never know, me or my dad may have known them. My dad is 80 this year and may know of them. Everybody knew each other years ago😋 thanks for reply 😉
Ah.... just spotted them in the old clip lol. They are long gone 🤣 They were so comfy, but not very attractive. I do have black ankld croc boots though and don't know if they're visible in this video.
