How To...Make a Turk's Head Woggle or Neckerchief Slide

I have been making Turk's Head woggles or neckerchief slides this week at a scout group, so I thought I would create this how-to guide to making one.
There are several different ways to make one, and several different variants of a Turk's Head, but this is the one I learned when I was a scout, so this is the method I am demonstrating. I hope you can follow it clearly!
The main use of these will be in a scouting or guiding context, but I'm sure there are other potential uses.

Now I am a pro and this is by far the very best tutorial so far especially after seeing many idiots overcomplicating this simple and beautiful rope job along with their repetitive bullshit talking and stupid music. People should thank this young gentleman.

When I was a little boy my dad sailed us in the Mediterranean for days and with fair weather the only occupation we had was learning nice knots with him. Thank you for the great video. Knot turned out great the very first time.

As most others have said, your video has been the easiest to learn the turks head knot. Thank you for taking the time to make it and explain what you are doing.

Yes! I did it! You are amazing! Thank you so much for actually explaining step by step without going off about leads and bights and doing your own thing leaving the rest of us to catch up.

Thank you for a very clear instruction on this knot, which is very intriguing. Now I have to fit it into my project, which means practice, practice, and practice a lot more. You did a wonderful job and your video showed each step very well. I'll be watching it over and over until I get this right.

Thank you for this very easy to follow video! Thought.. if you do this with even smaller thread and do it around a plastic straw, it would make a cool bead for macrame or whatever you wanted to string it to... like fobs, lanyards or even funky necklaces and bracelets. I am making a woven divider for my kitchen/dining area, I think I will use this tutorial for decorative beads. Thanks again!

Great! With cub scouts, you'll probably need quite a bit of patience! There will probably be some who can do it all with only a bit of help, whilst others will get stuck on the very first stage. Probably useful to get the cubs into small croups - e.g. in their sixes - and make sure everyone gets to the same stage before moving on to the next. Be prepared for the one or two who will manage to completely unravel theirs and random points during the demonstration! Hope it goes well!

Quote of the video: "If you have smaller hands, you may need to use three fingers". Top drawer
@RichardB1983
@RichardB1983 12 лет назад
I reckon it might be possible, but generally, the turks head would be wider than a coin - and the coin might get in the way of you tying it. You could add the coin after you've finished - and secure it in place with glue, or by melting the nylon onto it perhaps?

I guess that would probably work, yes. If you've got a thin thread, you might want to use a needle or similar to thread it as it might get quite fiddly.
