How To Make A VERY EFFICIENT Mob Farm in Terraria! (Tons of Coins and Loot!)

Here's a tip for those interested, build it in Pre-hardmode, the enemies are much more bearable. Also make sure to build it near the edge of the world, while "for the worthy" makes the Hallow and Corruption spread random, normal worlds make the two appear on a V shape, unless the corruption is already at your ocean, the chances of your farm getting infected are greatly reduced if not completely taken away, also if you're trying to farm Chaos Elementals, make sure to make the AFK spot unreachable to them, unless your playing a class that doesn't have them available, some Summons, Sentries, the Star Cloak (with enough defense and health regen) and the Vile Crystal Shard are great to speed up the killing the mobs, not allowing them to take over the mob cap, letting you farm a specific enemy more easily. a good tip is to use Dungeon blocks to outline the Farm because dugeon blocks are resistant to explosions

For anyone making this farm, I have a few tips. To reduce spawn rates while building the farm, place peace candles and drink calming potions. If you didn't know, sunflowers also reduce spawnrates. Place 2 blocks of dirt and hit them with a staff/axe of regrowth to turn them into grass or place 2 grass seeds on the dirt (purchased from the Dryad), and place a sunflower on the grass. Invisibility potions also reduce spawn rates, but I personally like being able to see where I am at all times, but it's up to you. I'd recommend at least trying it before saying no to it, as reduced spawn rates will save your life during the creation of this farm. Measurements can get really annoying, so whenever I make this farm, I use this guide I made for myself to really help out. Maybe it'll help you too? : Take the blocks you will be using for the outline and split them into stacks of: 168, 48, 1, 50, 167, 84, and 84. Make sure these stacks are at the bottom of your inventory, and that they're all marked as favorite. Make sure that if you have more of those blocks separate from the stacks, keep them in your hotbar so if you break any of those blocks, they'll go back into the main stack in your hotbar and not one of your important ones that will be used for the outline of the farm. Place 168 blocks horizontally on the bottom of your farm. ON TOP of that final 168th block, place another 48 vertically. Place one more block ON TOP of that 48th block, and place torches on its side to mark it, as this block is your halfway point. It is exactly in the middle vertically! This will SIGNIFICANTLY help later on to know this now. Place 50 more blocks vertically on top of that halfway point block. Now we have the outline pretty much done. Simply fill in the rest of it (by placing 167 more blocks horizontally, and the remaining vertical blocks. Once you're ready to place that layer in the middle where the mobs will be spawning, remember that torch marked block? Yeah, we're going to be using that now. As you start building the bridge, a TON of enemies will be spawning and attacking you. Simply drink a gravitation potion and build the bridge upside down, and the mobs will be on the other side of the platform and unable to get you. Place 84 blocks horizontally, and place a torch on top of it. Place 1 more block next to it and put a torch on top of that one, and fill in the remaining 83 blocks. Those two blocks with torches on them are in the center of the farm horizontally. And there you go! That's how I do the outline without any mistakes, and without having to think too hard about it. Remember to use luck boosting items, such as garden gnomes, and any luck boosting accessories. The lucky horseshoe found on sky islands (and any other version of it such as the lucky horseshoe balloon) along with the lucky coin from the Pirate Invasion both increase your luck and they stack with each other to get even greater luck. If you're farming chaos elementals, remember they and enchanted swords can get into your safe area and kill you. And you can't just respawn, since there won't be any background walls behind you. To counteract this, you can simply just use a summoners build and summon minions to protect you, and place a campfire and heart lantern to help with regeneration if the enemies ever hurt you. You can also equip a spore sac from Plantera to help, and it will also help you get some rare banners, such as mimic and nymph banners. Otherwise, just make a nights edge and equip feral claws and make sure it's always swinging as it goes around in a circle around you, protecting you from the enemies. Despite what Waffle said, I'm 99.9999% sure that being grappled isn't enough to let chaos elementals spawn. An easy solution for this is to equip frog legs (you get them from fishing) and make sure you're constantly holding down the jump button. If you're using a keyboard, put something heavy on the spacebar. If you're using a controller, get a few rubber bands and a coin. Place the coin the jump button and wrap the rubber bands around the controller in a way that pins down the coin. This also works on the "attack" button if you're using Nights Edge, though for this you don't need another coin. Good luck with your farm (:

A couple things to make this farm a lot better: 1. Use a garden gnome and correct biome torches for increased luck (use bone torches bought from the skeleton merchant in normal caverns, and incorrect torches cancel out the effect). Increased luck means better loot, more money, and rarer enemies will spawn more often 2. Make sure to use a treasure magnet to collect the souls 3. If you want to use this to farm the rod of discord make sure you are continuously moving because chaos elementals don’t spawn if your standing still or not using items for more than 5 seconds. Flying mounts can do this. Auto jump from a frog leg, or a grappling hook, but grappling hooks only last 10 minutes.

The sigma strat that I used to measure is by splitting blocks into 99 and 168 so you don't have to do the torch thing

I actually improved this design in a few small ways -When making sure mobs can't spawn below, I walled the area off instead of using lava. I then placed a bunch of platforms down there, along with campfires and heart lanterns. Now if you convert the area into Hallow or Corruption/Crimson you have a Biome Mimic arena. -You can wire up dart traps inside the lava pit to kill stuff faster -You can add exactly the amount of blocks needed to make it Underground Hallow/Corruption/Crismon, then remove/place one to essentially turn them on/off. This is handy to prevent Biome mimics from killing your AFK session.

I highly recommend Granite as the uncorruptible block of choice. Not only are Granite biomes fairly large and easy to excavate into the farm, but the Golems and Elementals have 3 drops in particular that make it very worth it, especially in PreHardmode: 1. Night Vision Helmets: this lets you instantly craft the Ultrabright Helmet, which can be used to great effect in your Mining Loadout with the rest of the Mining Armor. They also sell decently after the first one. 2. Geodes: for the big bucks, Geodes are an item you can toss to get tons of Gems like Amethysts, Rubies, and Diamonds, which you can use for things like Gem Weapons, King Slime summons, etc., but they're very valuable to just straight up sell after slamming them into a wall. 3. Spaghetti: Spaghetti gives you a MAJOR improvement to all stats for 8 minutes, which is about the same amount of time as most buff potions, especially combat potions. And you're gonna be getting about as much Spaghetti as a Hotel Mario RU-vid Poop.

You need hardened sand block walls behind the player for a desert biome. These walls can be crafted with hardened sand blocks and a workbench in a graveyard biome. Without the walls there are no underground desert enemies spawning.

This may take a while but it pays off! Platinum early game when corruption or crimson starts to get out of hand for a clentaminator is so useful. Along with this you can also get many accessories and mob drops! 10/10 great video thank you!

I've seen alot of videos like this, and I always go to make it in a new playthrough, you BY FAR, explained it the best and even added specific biome configurations. Thanks, you can also add temple traps like spiky ball trap and arrows in the kill chamber trust me its great.

Would reccommend you also use a minecart under the length of the volcano to collect drops remotely so you can afk, as well as a star veil (once you've spent a bit of time in the farm active, waiting for those to drop), any Honey Comb or upgrade, band of regen, heart lantern, campfire, and possibly bother with warding accessories if in master mode. This should help you avoid death from chaos elementals if you don't feel like spawn-proofing your box from them reaching you. Could also be helpful to create a pillar of blocks, one thick on each edge at the top of your volcano, and hammer platforms once on the outward facing edges (try this yourself outside of the farm first if you're not familiar with hoiking and block phasing) and it should keep the lovely bat friends inside the salsa trench for you :) It may do you well do suspend extra lava pockets within bubble block (sold by party girl in hardmode) containers crawling up the shaft to kill any lingering bats in the test tube.

The fact that this farm also works in the Surface is really great, you can farm Unicorn Horn or any other rare loots that can only be found in the Surface.

Just a tip for when doing the outline; Choose a block that stops corruption or crimson and split stack to exactly the amount needed for the sides and top makes you life much easier

I'd recommend using stone slabs, they're non-corruptable, easy to craft (all you need is stone and heavy workbench) and they look nice.

The farm works perfectly, it took me probably a solid 4 hours to finish considering that I had to it all in hardmode using prehardmode gear but it was worth it in the end. Let the money flow!

Pro tip: If you're willing to make this AFK farm design as summoner,you can place platforms bellow your player,Sanguine bats can reach bats that happen to spawn bellow the arena,meaning that you won't have to painfully place background walls on each and every part bellow the arena. (In addition to this,placing lava at the bottom part of the arena prevents grounded enemy spawns,but not sure if it prevents bats,too)

Personally a tip i like is to just blow the s h i t out of the arena and make the outline out of duengon bricks so you can go ape mode with the bombs. Also the Mining Potion, Full Mining Set and Chisel get you upt to 70% Increased pick speed which is basically max and really helpful.

Damn this farm works incredibly. It's a pain to build at a point in game progression when it's really helpful, but the payout is worth it. I've followed several of your tutorials and tips, and all I can say is thanks for being such a chad and lending your chad tips to us.

Compass and Depth Meter would also help with a big project like this. 2 units is equal to 1 block, so just dig 200 units vertically, and 340 units horizontally. I hope this can help...

I would build a tower in the middle of the farm and a short tunnel to pick up the loot left and right of the tower. Standing in the middle of the tower helps with mobs like Wraiths because they would just float under the platform your standing on. I would add a small pond for fishing while using the trap as well.

100% recommended. When I made this, it worked very efficiently. Sadly, the jungle blocks actually messed up the farm instead of helping it, because it made those one shot miniature jungle bats spawn instead of anything else, so the jungle blocks aren't recommended. Even then, the farm works extremely perfectly for crimson and corruption, but if your doing hallowed you have to keep in mind the illuminate bats and slimes are fire proof and they won't get as damaged by the lava, not to mention they both have a lot more health than the normal bats. Lastly, I would suggest using bubble blocks to place that extra layer of lava above the main lava pit, so the bats run into the lava no matter what

4eli's epic tips *bad to the bone opening riff* - you can use dungeon blocks and unsafe dungeon walls (blue/green/pink brick walls into shimmer) to farm golden keys and paladins - use campfires/torches of the respective biome and a garden gnome to boost your luck with drops - use a summon for mobs that get in (if they even can idk) - back to tip one but with lihzahrd bricks for epic stuff like solar tablet fragments and power cells - use a greedy ring or a lucky coin to get extra coins - if you are using the greedy ring, you can put quick damaging summons in the pit for more coins (e.g, slime staff, blade staff) that wraps up 4eli's epic tips

great farm i ended up getting the drops i wanted twice before finishing the farm aswell as a random slime staff this farm is truly amazing the area below is also great for farming the mimics that spawn also if u ever feel like donating 100 platinum coins to the goblin tinkerer for reforges u dont want this works great

Big brain strat for anyone needing it, when measuring a perimeter in this game just sort out a stack of blocks as long as you need one edge to be, and place that stack. For this one I would do a 99 block stack, then a 167 block. I'd go up, then across. Then I'd go across from the bottom the same way, and pillar up. Currently picking my blocks for the farm.

Pro farm Chaos Elementals without having to worry about dying to Mimics, simply get the Frog Leg accessory as it lets you auto jump and set your spawn right underneath the lava. This means even if you die you immediately respawn and get back to farming.

Havent seen anyone mention this yet, but by far my favourite method of measuring for large structures is wire! You'll always know exactly how many you put down, you can place it from anywhere on the screen instead of having to get in placement range, if you get bumped by a mob you dont get a weird zigzag, and its always there and always visible until you cut it, so bomb to your heart's content! 💖

pro tip, build this right before beating wall of flesh then its a lot faster, since u dont use pickaxe anyway but bombs u get to avoid dieing 600 times, then when ur in hardmode your chillin

Thank you! 5 mining sets (7 shirts, 5 pants, 3 hats) in an hour or two of farming. WAY more efficient than my super lazy approach of trying to add several rows of cavern blocks to underground jungle biome (yielded no mining items after a half hour.)

I made some of these in the dungeon and learned some very important lessons. First - Choose the correct location in the dungeon regarding background walls. To get desired enemies to spawn. Second- Whatever you do don't destroy the background walls directly under the trap, where you will stand for the farm.The Dungeon biome will dissapear and you cannot create it again. Third - I stay submerged in honey next to a heart statue and when spirts or casters appear i dash out of the way and use summons and weapons to take care of them. Obviously a campfire and heart lantern as well. Fourth - I keep enough vertical space to use the Deadalus Stormbow to more quickly kill paladins. Also I used spear traps and flame and dart traps in the trap. Fifth - You can place dirt blocks on top of dungeon bricks to prevent Dungeon mobs spawning there. Sixth - This one aint confirmed yet but im testing it out. If you get rid the the very bottom sliver of natural dungeon wall directly where you are standing. Small enough to where you don't eliminate the dungeon biome from despawning. It seems to prevent casters from teleporting under your trap. This works well for all casters except the volcano one. It's not AFK but i get crazy good runs in and plenty of loot. It's a huge pain to setup though so.... Seventh - Set it all up Pre hardmode if you can.

GOOD TIP: Build an underground NPC Village near where you're going to build your farm before you start building, because you get a ton of Gem Critters which you can shimmer into gems during the building process But be warned: NPCs will lower spawn rates in your farm, so you should place a shadow candle (Made with a Torch and 3 evil bars with ecto mist) in your farm

1:12 life hack for this just get the exact number needed to build the outline around 534 blocks and place them in order build the wall until you have 435 blocks left then build the floor until you have 267 blocks left and repeat for the wall and ceiling

I come from a recent stream but honey needs to be the primary block you build. It slows enemy's down making the farm overall more effective. Don't let skyware tell you otherwise, do your own research.

Something very important but not that talked about that i realised after making such a farm was , it doesn't matter what biome it is for the enemies to spawn (biome still matters for the souls and keys) but rather the enemies depend on the block they spawn on Using this info i made a mob farm that gives me crimson desert / hollow desert / underground crimson / underground hollow / jungle / ice biome enemies all in one , and i made it so i can switch between hallow and crimson for the souls

Tip: you can also Build this in pre hardmode so that you won't die alot and enemies are less annoying when you build the farm.

additional tips: use dungeon bricks so the border doesn't get blown up, as well as being able to create a dungeon biome if you're close enough to the actual dungeon. graveyards and water candles: no explanation needed. If you're grinding for vampire knives, then put down a heart statue to take care of floaty grosses.

Easy. Just ro measure just use 99 blocks 168 blocks and 84 blocks. Boom, just mark the 84th block then keep building. Also the bat thingymabob doesnt work.

Waffle, you should make a video for an omni-fishing farm. I know a few designs but I'm always looking for better ones.

Something I've found: if you add an inverted pyramid shape on the bottom of the bat lava pool higher up, you not only have enough room to get a teleporter up there for easy loot, but also the bats and other flying enemies will glide right into the botton lava, and will usually get stuck.

Theres a trick i found, every block is equal to 2 distance on the direction meter. I found it much easier to take the block amount and multiply it by 2.

Tip!! You can split your blocks to 99 and 168 and build it so you can just place them and dont have to double check...

Great guide! I've been having one issue, however. When using corrupt blocks clingers tend to spawn on the sides of my grinder, clogging up the entity cap!

@1:10 instead of using the ruler just pick a non corruptible block and make 4 stacks of it two of them 168 and two of them 99 then just outline as you go so you know exactly how many blocks. You can even split those into 6 stacks so you can mark the center point vertically and horizontally.

I was watching and paused before you said we could use lava instead of walling off the whole bottom half so I ended up walling the whole bottom half... I dont regret it, looks nice, costed around 8000 walls

Id recommend usong conveyer blocks for the platform and pyramid outsides, this will bring coins and drops from bats when they manage to get away

I find that measuring with blocks, although more tedious, by subtracting the measurement by the current amount is actually a far better method for those with very short memory, simply because you can instead memorize the resulting amount instead of memorizing what number I am on

For some reason the lava I place at the bottom half of the farm keeps disappearing After it spreads out it will slowly start to disappear until it is gone completely. Does anyone know how to fix this Edit:ok nvm I was just being dumb and not using nearly enough lava causing the spread of the lava to bug out and cause itself to dissipate

I suggest a sentry or two to speed up the deadining process so i suggest starting off with a ice farm first and make sure you add on some non snow or ice blocks to get those grotesque rolling H A I R B A L L S and for pigrons just use a unholy or holy flask for that sweat succulent bacon

If you make one of these in a granite biome, the enemies can drop geodes, which give random gems, which you can sell, so therefore granite biome = more money. Edit: the granite enemies take up spawn slots, thus leading to less biome-type enemies, so it would take longer to get the rod of discord or other enemy-specific drops. This is the same for mimics, which drop lots of gold; so only really do this if you don't care about having less biome-specific enemies and mimics.

So I found out by accident that this farm does actually 100% afk king slime if you have like 20 defense.

Tipp: you can just get a stack of 99/168 and then just build it, if you run out, the side is done :)

Big tip: Bring a calming potion, a sunflower and a peace candle. Maybe even move NPCs in nearby. The enemy spawn rates will drive you utterly insane if you don't. A summon and sentry weapon might also be wise because it's added DPS that allows you to continue getting shit done, even if just for a moment. If you are playing as a summoner then you might not even need to worry about all this so long as your summons don't fuck off and attack an enemy at the edge of the screen.

As a suggestion, you can also just fill in holes on the bottom portion with walls, instead of blowing everything up. Then bats and other mobs can spawn down there. Makes the farm more efficient.
