In this video you'll learn how to make a sourdough starter from wild yeast. Here we used grapes and apples but you can use almost anything including just flour and water. You'll see all the steps in the process including what the starter will and should look like at each step and a bit of science behind the process!
And you'll also learn how long sourdough breads have been made and who was the first culture to make them. Finally...it's not as hard as you may think. And the older the sourdough starter the better bread it makes.
You got this.

Thanks! I'm trying to remove some of the mystery and misinformation about sourdough. Glad you liked it.

@@CleanSlateFarm I'm learning about wild yeast thru vegetable fermentation. It's amazing how the yeast on vegetables, plus water & salt will make a wonderful addition to a meal. And the healthy benefits for the gut are a bonus for overall health as well. The addition of wild yeast sourdough will be a step towards self sufficiency in the kitchen, thank you!

Hi, loved your video. I have question so you left starters for one day each day in room temperature?
@CleanSlateFarm

I think I understand your question. I had discards that I tossed or started another batch with. All at room temp for best conditions to grow.

One word: funnels

Explain please. If there's an easier way to do something I need to know. Thanks for commenting

I think they mean that using a funnel will reduce spillage of the flour.

I often just roll a nearby piece of paper into a cone if I’m too lazy to get out a funnel.

Did you do a video on making a sourdough bread with the starter you made? I can't find it. 😊

Sorry, I never got to that. Other projects got priority. Thanks for commenting though!

@@CleanSlateFarm I'd love to see how you do it. Some no nonsense guide would be nice! The videos on RU-vid seem to turn sourdough bread into rocket science for some reason and I'm sure there are simple ways to do it...

@@ssmith2608 I know your comment is from a year ago, but if you still have interest, the channel, ”Our Gabled Home” is run by a German woman who has a definite no-nonsense approach to sourdough as well as most other things. If you check her video listing, you’ll find some from a while back, but I noticed she very recently put up a new one regarding sourdough and no-discard. I need to check it out myself.

I made some yeast with grapes but its not rising and falling yet. It has a good smell and bubbles but just doesn't seem to rise and fall. Any ideas? Do I have the wrong yeast?

Keep at it. Regular feeding and tender care should make it work. Also try an A/B test with two different flours. It may be there is not enough protein in your flour. Keep me posted!!

Success! Baked a pretty white loaf today soo happy! With my own homemade yeast starter such a satisfying feeling 😁. Haven't tried the rye starter yet ( I split them into 2 jars like you suggested) but it rose well today so I'm hopeful.

The yeast has to be trained to go after the flower LOL

Give or take.🤪 My hope is people see there is sometimes a bit of leeway in cooking. Experimentation is fun and enlightening! Thanks for the comment.

Bee killer... he showed a really sad video of him removing a bee nest in his shed. Little does he know that without bees humans will not survive.

If you took the time to read the comments you would have seen that the bumble bees were successfully relocated. And furthermore, I am a beekeeper with 4 colonies. I used to do beekeeping videos as well but not anymore.
