Wow I didn't know we exported Pine to the USA. That stuff grows on trees around here. Nice wine box. Cheers Peter

Nice project, and the shavings are a fine touch. I bought the Ibox but haven't used it much after I made a batch of drawers for shop cabinets. It is a nice jig, I need to get it out and get familiar with it again.

Awesome. I almost bought one of these jigs earlier today at my local Woodcraft. If they actually had it in stock, I probably would have come home with it.

Hey David, I don't know if it helps you with the Incra guys, but you sold the Incra iBox jig to me. After comparing all the different options, diy and factory-made, your video finally made it clear; I needed the iBox. It arrived today and I hope to get started using it tomorrow. Thanks

Thanks! I have no affiliation with Incra although they did send me an email saying they liked the video.

Great stuff, David! I know what I'll be making my in-laws for the Holidays. Now that you've got some experience with it, how long does it take you to change out the whole blade/cartridge assembly for the dado configuration on the SawStop?

Good job presenting~! I'll look closer at that box joint jig. I have a few similar on consignment. I used miter/ spline joints though. Did a few with simple rabbets too. I have been experimenting with making the slide top of 3/4 mat'l, then let the finger hole also work as a bottle balance. Noticed when you clamped the sides, you have the clamp (almost?) over the end of the board. (5:26). That won't pull the sides in when you have finger joints, of course, and I don't think you will have much luck making the board shorter with a clamp! Move in from the finger joint a quarter inch.
@scobob
@scobob 6 лет назад
Nice. I love my I-Box. One quick tip for gluing up the fingers is to lay all the sides down with the inside facing up. Put some painter's tape right up to the edge of the fingers to prevent the squeeze out from getting inside the box. Then simply apply glue to all the fingers facing up, no need to go into the joint as the opposing finger will have glue on the correct mating surface. Much faster and cleaner. Keep up the good work.

A plug for Stumpy and Mithas, I can make 4 boxes at once and 1/10th the time it would take to use the incra jig. No joke. Granted I do it all the time, but still. They are both worth a look.

Great Video. I have two questions though. At 1:156 you mention drawing line on the bottom on the cut pieces. At 2:46 you say that the lines must face the inside. If the lines are on the bottom of the pieces how can they face the inside? Does inside mean toward the blade away from the operator or does inside mean moving the wood from left to right making the cuts? Sorry if I am not making myself clear. I am a beginning work worker and need very clear instructions so I do not mess things up.

If you wanted to use this to make drawers that use box joints, what would you say is the maximum height the jig can safely handle? In other words, what's the widest drawer you could safely make?

Awesome video, thanks! With the wine box, do u have to line up the groove for the lid (side panels) with a inner part of the back joint so it doesn't show on the outside? & is that why u don't groove the end piece too?

Looks like it is well worth the money for the Jig, would it work for Table saws that the Arbor is to short for a Dado stack? Thanks for sharing David
@MakeSomething
@MakeSomething 10 лет назад
Yes, you'll just need to use a blade that cuts a flat bottom. I have used the jig with a single blade.

Hey great project! What brand dado blade do you own? It looks like you do your woodworking in your basement near your boiler? If it has a pilot light starting system be careful of sawdust near open flame! Sawdust is explosive in large quantitys.
@MakeSomething
@MakeSomething 10 лет назад
I'm using the Frued dado set. Costs around $80 USD. I try and keep all sawdust away from the pilot lights! Thanks!
@MRrwmac
@MRrwmac 10 лет назад
It's interesting that many of your projects are related to liquor? I wonder why? Like the way you used stock lumber and cut it up so much it became a large quantity to meet your needs! The Incra only cuts one piece at a time correct? Whereas the others you mentioned will cut more than one (depending on thickness of course)? Very nice project. Thanks for sharing.
@MakeSomething
@MakeSomething 10 лет назад
MRrwmac You probably could cut 2 pieces at the same time. I haven't tried it and it wasn't mentioned in the directions.

Great video. Is the placement of the groves critical so the groves don't show up on the ends after assembly?
@MakeSomething
@MakeSomething 10 лет назад
Thanks! Yes. they need to be only on the 2 long pieces and on the short finger if that makes sense. The 2 end pieces do not get grooves cut.

Nice. You only cut the bottom rebate on the long sides - do the short sides not need to provide support .? Cutting a rebate with finger joints of course exposes the cut in the fingers on the outside unlike a miter joint.
