I JUST found your channel today and I am so upset that you're no longer making videos. You explain things so well and make it in a way that anyone can understand and build their confidence. I am new to baking and have always wanted to bake but never felt ai had the ability but you have given me the confidence and I cannot even begin to explain to you what that means to me!!!!!! I wish you well in whatever you do but PLEASE know this lady misses your lessons so very much. I wish you much health and happiness. May God bless you.

Would like to say that I love all your tutorials because you make them seem so easy to do and you use the most basic tools or at least the ones we buy in the Wilton classes. Cudos to the rose tutorial. I've learned a lot. Question: do you have to mix fondant and gum paste in order to make the flowers or can you just use colored gum paste and call it a day?

One being a beach cake, a new challenge. I'm hoping I may find your advice on edible sands and sea horses. Kind Regards,

Thanks, will look into that, have been trying out making shells, quite pleased with results, after watching closely how you work with everything, and the sugar is a very good idea for the sand, so will create a scaled down cake to see results! thanks again for you reply ! Les

So would it work to use a chocolate kiss as the center of your rose?? When doing single pedal roses you could use a decorating tip to cut your circles. I’ve done this when making fondant roses.

Absolutely you can use only gumpaste. The only reason I use a mix of fondant and gumpaste is to make it easier for beginners. It gives you more time to "play" without the product drying out.

+GlobalSugarArt - I have made many sugar flowers from gum paste but I find roses to be the most difficult ONLY because the edges get so thin and just touching them a tiny bit after they are dry makes little pieces chip off. I just followed this specific tutorial using the 5 petal GEM set and cel buds bought from your store. They are looking so great! But for a few things: I am having trouble coloring the gum paste a very deep purple using petal dust. I can't seem to get it to go dark enough and I don't want to use too much dust to find out if it's possible. The other problem I have is I think I'm not rolling it thin enough but it's still working okay. Then lastly is the problem with the thinned out edges and bending them/curling them over and then when dry they easily chip. Is there a solution to that? Will steaming them make them less brittle? Will adding some shortening help (I know it's something that can be done with fondant that's too dry)? THANKS!!! I love your tutorials and products!
@GlobalSugarArtyoutube
@GlobalSugarArtyoutube 6 лет назад
Hi Ruth. I think the petal dust is your problem. It takes a lot of petal dust to color gumpaste and it may be drying it out too much and making it brittle when it dries. Instead of petal dust, use Fondust powdered food coloring or gel colors. This should solve your problem. And yes, you can add a small amount of shortening when kneading your color in the paste. This is especially helpful when working with blue and green colors as they tend to dry the paste even more than other colors.

Yes, one teaspoon of CMC or Tylose per pound of fondant works great.

Thank you Chef Alan for sharing your wonderful talent with us. I'd like to ask how are these roses without wires can be stacked on fondant cakes specially if we want to put on the edges or sides without worrying it would fall out of place?
@GlobalSugarArtyoutube
@GlobalSugarArtyoutube 9 лет назад
Please look at this video on how to make a wired rose. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YaWsoRepDV8.html You would use a wired rose for floral sprays and to place on the sides of a cake.

i am not being funny but what the hell is gum paste ?? is it American ready roll coloured icing ?? I have been making roses for years and i have never used any fancy pastes or left the middle overnight either.i don't use fancy petal cutters either i just keep different plastic size lids from plastic bottles and containers without paying for cutters as it costs nothing especially if you are on a budget
@GlobalSugarArtyoutube
@GlobalSugarArtyoutube 10 лет назад
Gumpaste is a sugar dough that has a gum additive that allows the dough to dry hard. The gum also makes the dough very smooth and stretchy so that it can be rolled very thin and the petals can have smooth and thin edges. It is not an American creation. It has been used for over 100 years in the baking business all over the world and is sometimes called flower paste.
