Great video bro, thank you. Being a lay chemist for over 50 years I would recommend let the vinegar-eggshell mix sit at least 2 hours for the reaction to complete and neutralize all the vinegar and dissolve as much calcium as possible. Personally I let it sit overnight. Doesn't hurt

Not all of my tomatoes had this though and I ended up with some great tomatoes from the beds. This year I followed your recipe for used soil and added all of the things you mentioned. I am hoping that the lime and all of the other stuff will create a great garden! I love your videos and love all of the home made recipes, awesome!

You grow., you learn and you get better. I am still doing that. Just FYI now that you have lime in the garden, just keep moisture even. You really shouldn't need more calcium via lime. It can change pH. But you can give them eggshells like this at point tomatoes start showing. Good luck.

This happens to the best of us like Gary said😏. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with blossom end rot as most gardeners experience this one time or another. I have had problems in the past with blossom end rot. Even with rigorous watering routines and great soil it can really still occur. The one thing I have found to solve this problem and make my organic garden go crazy is Neptune's Fish hydrolysate. All it takes is a small amount in a gallon. Feed you plants when they start to flower every 2 weeks. Bananas. Insect frass is great too. For some reason the hydrolysate really helps the plant uptake the calcium.

That works. If you drop them yearly in your ground, you get the on going slow release benefit. I wasn't 100% clear but eggshells are a slow release, by adding the vinegar, you make it fast release for calcium. The container plants can get it right away and don't need to wait for soil life to break the shells down into a free from of calcium.

Calcium Carbonate (eggshells) reacts with Acetic Acid (Vinegar ~5%) and gives out CO2 (bubbles), Calcium Acetate (the stuff you want) and H2O (water). Vinegar is completely neutralized after the reaction has stopped overnight and turn into water IF/AS LONG AS there's some eggshell left over in the solution. If vinegar completely dissolved the eggshell, the resulting solution is still acidic, so add more eggshells. 6mg of eggshell more or less completely dissolves in 100g of supermarket consumer food grade vinegar ~5%. So, maximum 72mg of calcium can dissolve in 1.2kg of vinegar (two bottles). Dilute the Calcium Acetate (liquid calcium, the stuff you want) to about 1 : whatever ratio you want. For me I do it at 1 part Calcium Acetate : 30 parts of water.

Another plus for this recipe is you can use it to add CO2 to your plant environment in it is in a grow tent. Often, plants are not getting enough carbon dioxide in a closed environment to grow their full potential. Mix this solution into a quart container and put into your tent.Do this immediately, for the chemical reaction starts as soon as you mix. As the chemical reaction occurs it releases CO2 and humidity(from the water) into the air. After the reaction is done (a day or two), you can pour the fertilizer into your soil.

Question. Going back to Chem 101, wouldn't it be safer to use too much eggshell, say 2 or 3 tablespoons, making vinegar the limiting reagent? Even a slight excess of acetic acid will build up in your soil over time, acidifying it. You'll just end up with more calcium in the shell, which you can compost. Lord knows worms love eggshells. PS. Love the baking idea. I just run eggshells under hot water, which may or may not kill salmonella. Just as easy to run them in my air fryer for about 15 minutes and kill the beasties dead.

@The.Ghost.of.Tom.Joad.
@The.Ghost.of.Tom.Joad. 2 года назад
@@spiralofhope Pine needles and vinegar are different animals. Pine needles are complex biological aggregates with ample nitrogen and carbon that will compost down. The interaction with soil microbiota creates chemical reactions which buffer and utilize the excess hydrogen (the H+ ion is what defines an acid). Vinegar is already simplified organic matter: usually, grapes are made into wine, and the wine into vinegar by yeast and bacteria. In the process, skns and pulp are removed, stopping the full composting from happening. Acetic acid is a biochemical resultant of that fermentation process. It is a straight acid. The water in vinegar will evaporate, turning the acetic acid into a salt, which biology will not consume. Like all salts, it's "sticky" due to its reactive nature, interacting with water that sticks to biological matter. That acetic acid salt will ALWAYS become an acid (with excess H+ ions) when combined with water. So if you add excess acetic acid year after year, the salt will build up and acidify the soil over the long haul. BTW, I've used industrial-strength vinegar to naturally acidify the soil for a blueberry patch. It was cheaper than a typical soil acidifying agent sold in a garden center. It took a while to get the spoil acid stabilized in year 1, but 3 springs later, the soil pH hasn't changed and we've added no additional acidified. Though I suppose it could have something to do with the heavy clay soil I started with.

I use a large open mouthed jar with no lid which I keep at the back on the top of my fridge. There's always a bit of heat there from the fridge working so the egg shells go onto the jar where they dry out naturally and usually fairly quickly. Once the jar is full of shells I crush them all down fine with the handle of a wooden spoon then continue to fill the jar with shells. Eventually I remember to sprinkle them into the compost heap.

Best to just let your Egg Shells sit in Vinegar or Lemon Juice for longer. If you can add 15ml Vinegar to 20-30ml of Egg Shells, this will ensure all vinegar is used up and does not affect the acidity of your soil. So keep mixture for 30 days and then combine with 3.75L of water and water garden. I use one watering can I made larger holes in to fit the egg shells out of the watering can. I just fill up the watering can and add another ratio of pre-mixed and neutralised Egg Shells. Much better this way for your plants. Just repeat every 6-12 months. Good drainage for soil too! :D >>> CALCIUM PLANT FERTILIZER

I've seen Honey Fungus 'mushrooms' growing out from in amongst wood chips laid down to make paths. Black 'roots', the rhizomorphs weren't far underneath the cluster of honey coloured fruiting bodies. Each individual 'mushroom' had a collar like structure just below it's cap. Practising good garden hygene; -it is recommended all tree and shrub stumps and roots be removed because they encourage Honey Fungus (Armillariella) to take up residency living as a saprophyte. The Fungus then seeks live plants as hosts to become then a parasite. It's agressive. And it litterally kills every single cultivated plant with which it makes contact. This popular trend for quick and easy, cheap and eco-friendly footpaths and mulches may well yet, in the not too distant future, prove devastating to many a cherished Garden and, heartbreaking to numerous Gardeners as well.

I would put vinegar based on leaves but on the ground and around is fine. The Rusted Garden Vegetable Seeds & Home Garden Supplies: www.therustedgarden.com Earn 15% and become a TRG Affiliate for our seed & garden shop Sign Up Here: bit.ly/4aarkDD

Not the whole 1 gallon a good soak. 1 gallon of water and couple tablespoons of Ca in a watering can. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More

What I was told, is to rinse out the egg shell to get the remainder of the white out of the egg shell, then I let them dry natually on my counter for a day and then once completely dry I crush them a little an put in a large jar. I do crush them as I put them in a jar with the end of a wooden spoon. Will I still get enough calcium after rinsing them out? I like the thought of using a coffee grinder. Going to try that.

Thanks man! Growing seven different varieties this year. All are doing well except my one Cherrokee purple is getting hit hard with B.E.R. That particular tomato always seems to give me problems

Thanks so much for making this. I have been wondering if you could do this with ground-up oyster shell.
