Hi guys! Thanks for joining me for another episode - this time on the waistcoat. I took 3 weeks to go to Venice and recuperate and get my life back together, and this time I chose to do a more thought of consciousness, more casual method of explaining what I’m doing. Hope you enjoy it, and comment if you just want to say hi. I’d love to get to know my viewers!

I’m glad to hear that you sew in your pyjamas. I mean with a 60 hour work week, a small child and then sewing all this, you’re clearly not sleeping, so it’s nice that they get some wear.

Finally some menswear! Thank you for this. As a male, I greatly enjoy the womenswear, just for the sake of technique learning. But practical clothing to make (granted period dressing is more fun imo than practical 🤭) from the sewing community is hard to find for men. ...so a great reprieve from the typical content! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Historical clothes (apart from court dress an the like) _was_ practical for the people who wore it. If you want to incorporate historical garments into your own wardrobe, consider what would suit your lifestyle and preferences, and go for it!

Okay but I *love* your pajamas and you could have actively sold us on that actually just being a kitschy shirt. I've started filming some stuff and I just cant be bothered to even take off my fluffy house robe.

I’ve heard that cutting open buttonholes with a chisel is the way it was done historically, probably for the reasons you mention. Similarly, lacing was often done with a bodkin.

@suzanne kathro you are never too old to do anything .you could just make a little pocket . Sawstine made a beautiful pocket with embroidery on it just ask your family to buy you the basics and get creative has much has you can .My mother was 80 years old this year and yes she has slowed down abit but she also loves creating things. We are lucky though to have sawstine channel so we can watch all the beautiful things she makes hope you have had a lovely summer 💖😊💖xx

Watching something like this really brings home (one contributing factor) why the French Revolution happened and why fashion changed so drastically immediately after. Imagine being the poor schmucks hand embroidering all this just to have the wearers pick apart the golden seams as a pastime...

I'd love to be able to sew in my pyjamas! Wonderful giggles in between slack jawed admiration. "My middle name is not patience… " Me: Says the woman who just told us she can spend 450 hours on a gown.. "Oh, wait, actually it is!" And loved the little glimpse of Converse at the end, very Coppola of you!

This is partially a joke but also serious someone tell Cathy Hay about this. She suffered so long with her peacock dress and all she needed was this machine, but I am glad Bernadette is helping her. This would of helped her years ago.

I open my buttonholes the same way but use a block of wood under it. I think your cutting mat is taking a lot of damage here. My stamper is a vintage one and I love it because is so easy and creates very neat openings. :-)

My guess is, if she can afford that machine, she can afford a second cutting mat just for button holes.

First off, I love your work. However, like most of us, we do not have the 10K to purchase a 10+ needle embroidering machine. My machine has a 4"x4" embroidery field (even that cost a small chuck of change). So how can we accomplish the same effect? I can input my own designs in to my machine, but I am not sure which would be the best route to go. Do I create a grid and work in a 4x4 pattern stopping and resetting for each grid? I know I could create a 4x4 "puzzle" on a base and treat it like an applique, however it would be like adding patches to a fine fabric. I am thinking the 4x4 "pixel" pattern method would look the best. However, before I even start attempting the concept on scrap fabric, I am hoping you have some insight in to possible ways to accomplish the same type of look with what we have at our disposal.
