Good question, you should start with deciding where the "light source" is coming from, in this example I chose to have the light coming from the top right, in general this means areas closer to the light source will be brighter and areas further away will be darker. Try looking at other illustrations and even real life objects to get a better understanding and then start practicing! hopefully this helped :)
I can tell you are new to using the tools and not knowing quick tricks in illustrator so considering that, good job, looking good - keep being creative.
@@ImShinndog I wouldn't say I have a delicate ego, I'm always open to constructive criticism because there's always more to learn but saying I'm new to illustrator is just incorrect haha, I've been using Adobe programs for years. I just find it weird that people such as yourself feel the need give backhanded compliments. If you think I can do things in a more efficient way then feel free to share in the comments, that way you can help both myself and the community :)

Also how was I meant to know you've been using it for "years", I thought you were new to it and thought you did a good job considering you were new, I'm not sure how that's a bad thing that I said you did a good job with limited experience, but there you go I guess, that's the world we are in :)

If you think I could do something better PLEASE share it, making passive aggressive, backhanded comments are useless. If you look at the likes and comments of the video you can see people find the info in the video helpful lol. I'm not sure if you're frustrated or jealous but you clearly have some troubles that I think you should address.
