I always love videos with someone making their own tools. I love being able to make something that will not only look pretty, but be useful. I always die a little inside from the awful dad jokes at the end of the videos. I've watched enough of James' videos though that it just wouldn't feel right if he didn't have one on deck.

Very cool project. I am restoring an old wood jointer plane that is missing it's tote. It will be similar in shape to yours with the addition of a foot to bed in to the body, I have a pattern made but need a piece of suitable wood. In Arkansas our state tree is the stump but the rest of the wood becomes firewood! You gave me ideas on shaping it, thanks for that. I may get arrested for stealing my neighbor's firewood. Maybe if I wear my WW sticker they will go easier on me!

Looking great! I'm working on designing and building my own infill style block planes, but I'm cheating with the corded devils. I can only imagine the extra level of work with doing it all by hand. Great, inspirational work as always

A No 67 spokeshave with round bottom can be good for shaping the inside curves.

Only 30-40 hours left? That's nothing! Ok, that's one reason I would rather buy a good-condition vintage than make one. They're awesome, but I just don't enjoy making tools or tool parts as I enjoy using them. But I'm certain this will look and work fantastic when you're done!

do jointer-sized infill planes exist? that could be fun to make...
@WoodByWrightHowTo
@WoodByWrightHowTo 6 месяцев назад
i have seen a couple, but they end up being around 20+ lb so most people that use to use infills just used a wooden body for that work.

Beautiful work! Quick question about the countersink bit you used on your brass. Where could I source one? I've been looking for a while! What are they called when intended to be used in a brace?
@WoodByWrightHowTo
@WoodByWrightHowTo 6 месяцев назад
I don't know of any new ones. All of mine are antique. I usually buy them in a batch of other brace bits.

I been waiting for your next video on this plane. I bought a steel sided kit off o Ebay ($248 dollars plus shipping). I had some issues with it but worked through them . The first thing I noticed was the blade was not ground square, out by more than a eight of an inch, it was ground 25 degrees instead of 30 degrees, the back was hollowed out so bad that I finally gave up and used the David Charlesworth trick to get it flat. All that said the steel was very hard and should hold a good edge. It took me a good bit of work to get the chipbreaker flat enough so it wouldn't jam. Question did you shorten the cap iron screw. I also noticed you didn't cut out for the😮 chipbreaker nut. Does yours not have a chipbreaker?
@WoodByWrightHowTo
@WoodByWrightHowTo 6 месяцев назад
I am using a ZenWu iron for this one so the chip breaker nut is flush. I will be shortening the screw once the lever cap is mounted.

You need to get this channel organized. You have produced much great content but its just too much. I'm not going to subscribe, I'm not going to even visit this site, because its such a time waster. Partly because the vids are often very interesting, for sure. But I will no longer spend up to an hour scrolling down thru the shows. Get organized-put similar content in a playlist or something, so that I can spend not more than 5 minutes focusing on those vids that pertain to what I'm looking for. And retain one playlist for the guy that has nothing better to do than scroll for hours on end. Problem, at least for me, solved. You have playlists with 45 videos on sharpening. 45? If those playlists are so time consuming, throw some stuff out.
@WoodByWrightHowTo
@WoodByWrightHowTo 6 месяцев назад
I have a very large collection of playlists that I sort everything into. Most videos end up in two plus playlists. But most people just end up searching for a particular topic they're interested in.
