I used a straight stitch on this because it was working well with the 9 oz. spandex. If you do a straight stitch just make sure the length and width of the stitch is bigger (on the machine it should be set to 4 or 5). The zig zag stitch always works well with stretch fabrics, however you only really need it anywhere that's fitted like the waistband. Also, whenever you're sewing with a spandex or jersey knit, make sure to use ball point needles. These needles are made for stretch fabrics.
Hi just curious if I can get the pattern ? However I also have a question for the skirt piece when you placed the pattern you folded the material so why would you need to cut twice wouldn't folding the material provide you with two pieces ?
Hi Neila, You can download the free pattern here: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-an-infinity-dress/ The reason for placing the pattern on the fold twice is because there is one piece for the front and one piece for the back.
Hey :) I'm thinking of sewing these dresses for my bridesmaids this summer but I'm not sure which material I should use. It has to be elastic but chic enough for my wedding. Do you have a recommendation? I'm not sure about the material you used in the video. Is it chic enough for a wedding? (I'm not sure if I see it only on screen) :)
Hi Diana, The material I used is a 9 oz. poly spandex but it's on the heavier side. We also have a 6 oz. poly spandex that would be better because it's lighter and a little more flowy. Both have a dull sheen to them but could be used for bridesmaid dresses. Other than the poly spandex we have cotton jersey (more on the casual side) and more elegant stretch fabrics like stretch charmeuse, and stretch satin. However with these they're not as stretchy as the poly spandex and would most likely need elastic in the waistband. You can find them all in the links below. www.onlinefabricstore.net/characteristic-knit.aspx?product_group=spandex www.onlinefabricstore.net/characteristic-knit.aspx?product_group=jersey-knit&product=cotton-jersey www.onlinefabricstore.net/product-group-charmeuse.aspx?product=stretch-charmeuse www.onlinefabricstore.net/product-group-satin.aspx?product=stretch-satin
Thank you. Add an extra inch all around the pattern to go up one size. Keep in mind that it's stretchy fabric, so if it's for you, it's best to try it on as you go to make it custom to your size. Hope this helps! :)
Hi Aj, Right now we only offer this size pattern, but if you're looking for it to be smaller you can either take it in (from this size) and customize it to the body it will be on, or you can take a 1/2 inch off around this pattern except for the sides that say 'on fold'. I hope this helps!
Hi Jean! You can download the pattern on our website here- www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-an-infinity-dress/ Just click the blue link at the top of the page that says "download the pattern."
