Wait til you see these next few weeks worth of videos lol and thanks for the compliment man. I just showed up, stayed positive and tried to learn it all. I was fortunate to work with a guy that knew everything on every job we were at. He was a framer by trade, but kicked out for DUI's but I learned a lot of framing, siding soffit n fascia, gutters, demo, window wraps, windows, doors, trim, flooring and prolly a handful of other stuff too. I just wanted to be the guy that had all of the answers like he did and sort of grew into that from being VERY consistent. I have never no called no showed. And that's rare out by me lol

Hey Veteran I have a 4 12 roof, I have 2 gable vents on both ends that are triangular. I can't find a triangle vent for vinyle . The square ones I have found are bigger of course. If I use a sq. one can I just drill some holes underneath the current triangle vent that would be covered by the new sq vent? Or should I cut out more material in the current siding / plywood ? If I cut out more should the insulation be removed from all of tht area ? My concern with the bigger sq. vent is will water perhaps blow in the new vent since it is going to be a lot lower that the existing vent? Hope this makes sense.
@GrazingBull

I’ve used that same way for the Lp and Hardie siding. Pretty cool to see it work for vinyl. Never worked with vinyl my boss I learned from always passed those jobs. Always said we use quality products not garbage. From your vids though looks like you can fly just siding vinyl.
@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction 4 года назад
Yes sir thanks for the comment! but yea every job is different, some are quick, I've tore down and installed 22 sq in a day with 3 others but that's far from typical lol I've also installed hardie board and LP. not a fan of hardie, takes too long, but when the day comes I'll probably LP my own house. What a lot of guys don't get is that vinyl isn't a bad product. I Like it and know it holds well when installed correctly and the majority of homeowners, like 75+% of people in my area, Would prefer to put vinyl on because its in their budget and lasts for what you pay for it.
@GrazingBull
@GrazingBull 4 года назад
Yeah hardie is a b word to work with. Lol i do agree with lp to me it’s the best in the biz. I use that template method and when I get to using just one piece up the gable I just use my template and a speed square to get all my measurements. Again great vids man.

@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction 4 года назад
Same exact thing. Hook into your gecko clips, slide over and use another piece to trace. or you can do a rake angle if I'm not mistaken, using either a speed square or a framing square. It won't be the easy way on the square though. And if its not new construction the angles won't always be perfect anyway so finding a good way to trace your angle is safer than a rake angle on a square

Zach, can you demonstrate a how to install the siding when the bottom 4 rows are missing down to the very bottom. I’m afraid if I try to replace starting from the bottom and come up, I won’t have the proper distance above to lock in and properly meet the the final strip because small distances times several can add up. Is there a way to install and work downward. I had a fire on the back of the house, and the bottom 10 feet melted in one corner downward to the ground where the fire started. Thank in advance.
@NWIVeteranConstruction

All the way up. Unless your roof pitch changes but that is obvious. Keep your pattern and use only that piece as a pattern. Don't use your cut offs as a pattern or it will eventually not work anymore.

@@NWIVeteranConstruction also make sure to keep your siding level. If you loose it then eventually it will come out of j channel. Why don't you cut it with the chop saw?
@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction 4 года назад
I could have. It's a 12/12 which equals 45 degrees and my saw is big enough to do it. However, The reason I didn't, is because that would not have worked on your average job where you're dealing with 8/12 and under (in my area) so, because not all angles are made the same and the majority of them need a grinder. I demonstrated it in a way that works in all situations.

Well. Not every pitch is built exact. Or settles exact when put up. Also. You're gonna end up using a pattern anyway coz nobody is gonna bust a speed or framing sq every time.
