I just started making my own when my tropical tree busted through is own pot😮. When people were driving by they would stop and ask if I were making them and selling them. I ahhhhh yeah!!!! lol. I found a hidden talent, didn’t know I had. Btw, in HS I wanted to pick wood shop but that class was always full. All 4 yrs of HS never got the opportunity to work with wood til this yr and I think it’s my calling😊. Class of “86” whooohoooo😒 love this planter and ima try to build it. Fo sail y’all 😂 😊

Love that you chose to sand the planter to a smooth finish! Looks awesome! I’m an interior designer and we always recommend having your furniture re-oiled/sealed once a year to keep its color, although the weathered wood can great too

Tung oil comes in different types, completely natural with nothing else added, takes a few days for a coat to dry. Top up with maybe 5 coats over many days. Then there's tung oil which has added chemicals to help it dry quicker but all types need regular coatings just like linseed oil. Tung oil is safe for plants but as you're using a liner inside, you can also use linseed oil (boiled or raw). Love your videos :)

Love the LED idea, looks amazing! I made something similar but instead of using pond liner I used weed fabric also on the bottom as well as the top to keep the soil breathable and have better drainage.

You are correct. My family had a pure cedar fence at our old house where we lived for 23 years. The fence had a finishing oil on it and we put a new coat on ever other year (so you should coat it every 2 years) and I can tell you it still kept the original cedar look years after being first installed.

I made cedar window shutters and hand railings for the front stairs outside. I used Olympic clear exterior sealer and it looks great. I have to reseal them about every 3 years, they also get a lot of sun all year.

Gorgeous! I used to refinish antique furniture with my dad. We used a lot of tung oil because it lets the natural wood come through. Also you can rub on multiple layers. It lasts and lasts.

I think a good Idea and what I would do is apply some colorless wood sealer. Make it kind of water proof and gives you an easier maintenance. Nice Job!!

Hey, love the videos and the authenticity you have here. Be careful planting with part of the pots. You may run into the roots not having enough room to spread out, circling back and eventually choking the plant itself. This is known as being "root bound". You can however go back and fix this any time, just dig up the plants, remove the pots, untangle the roots (you can even cut them if it's really bad) and replant them.

I like the rocks and led lights very nice touch man . And the gel is called dielectric grease so if you can’t find the special merrets you can get a small tube of that and squeeze it in regular merrets then a bit of electrical tape to seal it. And use boiled linseed oil for cedar it makes all the colours pop really nice and you don’t need any clear coats .

Great video. I don’t know about cedar, but for the record, I found out the hard way that teak needs regular maintenance. At the very least, you should clean it once a year or every other year. I let my teak rockers go to weather before addressing the issue and not only needed to clean them, but fill in cracks caused by our hot Texas sun and heat. In the end, they needed to be stained with a good solid color stain and now they look great again, but are not the natural teak look I love. Wish I knew way back when what I know now, so please look into it so you don’t run into the same experience. God bless and keep on building!
