This is a great tutorial but I cringe when you say your using headboard on the bottom. It will never be clean, it collects things like no ones business...
Good video-as a plumber I would suggest that the units under the plumbing be totally removable to access and work on the plumbing that at some point will leak. Very well thought out to gain extra space.
Very nice....glad to see the wife out helping you...now if I could only convince my wife. Thanks for sharing bud...will have to borrow this...as our master bath needs some more storage space
I did this in my Mom's kitchen island for her birthday last year. I took out the mullion between the cabinet's 2 doors, and attached it to the left door. Most-used things are stored behind the right door. Then installed 2 large trays, mounted on full-extension drawer slides. Everyone who saw it thought is was cool. Except my Mom, who threw a cow at me over it, a month later. Lesson learned: Do not build things for my Mom. Or I will get verbal farm animals shoved down my throat.
Nice job. The beadboard was a great idea, looks nice. I need to do something like this in the kitchen. You may want to cover the space between the supports on the lower shelves, stuff is going to fall in that little space just because it's there
This is an awesome idea. Was also waiting for the rail installation part. I never done anything thing like this but i am inspired to try😳 (Watch me Good it up) lol Thanks for sharing👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Welp....I watched this entire vid waiting for "how to install the drawers." I already made drawers, but cabinets AND drawer slides can be quirky and I'm having a hard time finding what type should be used in a bathroom vanity cabinet and for this type of application. :/
The title of the video says “HOW TO”, but you really didn’t explain the process. You just showed some of the things you did. It skips a lot of the process. Sorry but this wasn’t helpful. This is not a “how to” video, it’s more of “What I Did”
I'm hiding this video from my wife. She will add this project to the ever growing list of things she wants me to build for her. But, in all seriousness, I've been looking for videos showing the process of building these same exact kind of drawers for our small and cluttered pantry. You made it look simple and easy. Thanks, Drew! Also, I'm thoroughly enjoying the podcast you're doing now. 👍
Hey Thanks Josh I really appreciate it. You don't know how many people have told me that they are hiding this from the wife! It's funny to hear. Thank you for the compliments on the podcast. It means a lot.
Thank you SO much for this video. I spent the better part of a day looking for a video exactly like this and had no luck. I have a cabinet that is about the size of just the middle section of your sink base and my wife wants two slide out shelves on each side of it for the pats and pans. I was trying to figure out how to support the upper drawers and this is exactly what I was looking for. I think I will need to add some more bracing to the board at the back of the cabinet and for the supports along the stile in the middle due to the extra weight this will be supporting.
Rick Bruemmer so glad that this could help you. I get a lot of feedback from this particular video and they mainly state that it is exactly what they were looking for.
Wow, tell me how you really feel about it. Wink wink, just kidding. 😂😂😂 no seriously my music has not been used lately and I will probably keep it that way. I'm going in a new direction! It's one of those live and learn things. You won't hear it anymore🍻🍻🍻!!!
Good job I like the way you made the drawers. That is much faster than dovetails and very easy to make. They are also strong, the front won't pull off.
I've done this with many of the stock built cabinets in our last three homes. I also specially sized and built two different types of spice storage drawers. One was under cabinet, the other was under a shelf in a pantry. Both were sized and divided to organize spice bottles. Of course use full extension slides so you don't waste any space at the back of the drawer. Great project Drew, and great video.
I don't have table saw too make all those different cuts in wood. Can you use a Kreg Jig to make shelves? Also how do you make them slide in and out? Don't the shelf have to have to be attached to wheels or sliding mechanism? Appreciate ANY help!
Great Idea! Every vanity needs one of these. I might have to make one for mine. Great video too. I would love to be able to make my videos look as proffesional as yours. good job!
Thank you and if you looked at my past videos when I first started you would notice that they sucked. LOL. You get better with practice. I have over 100 videos of practice.
Yeah. I am hoping with practice mine will get better. I need to experiment with lighting and possibly get a better camera. I am just using my iPhone6 right now. It does the job. Thanks for the reply. Means a lot
Hey Anthony. These hinges can be purchased at any local big box store. These in particular are called frame mounted half inch overlay European-style hinges. I hope that helps. These came with the cabinet but I, myself, have purchased these as well in the past.
There is a cleat that is pocket screwed to the cabinet sides since the back was too thin to screw to. This cleat allowed me to pocket screw the slide supports
Wow..you are not only dreamy good looking but handy around the house too.....I am soooooo jealous...my fiance is an all trade craftsman but nothing gets done in our house. (His bright blue eyes and good looks aren't cutting it anymore...I want my dang slideouts) I make his breakfast, pack him a lunch and make dinner every night...among all my other household duties and keep my man happy in all ways possible. What am I doing wrong?
Pro tip: if your fiance is anywhere near as frugal as my husband, you might try saying something like, "Honey, since you don't have time to make my slideouts, I think I'm going to hire a handyman to do it." At my house, that means it gets done the following weekend. BOOM!
Confession, though: this has limited effectiveness. I save it for electrical work (which intimidates me), working on the car (which would hurt my back), and moving heavy things (which would also hurt my back). If it's building, painting, drywall repair, or plumbing...he knows I can do that and wouldn't consider paying someone else to do it. So that doesn't work for me.
Nice project, Drew. Looks like you gained quite a bit of storage space. I can think of several cabinets in my house that could use something like this. Dan
You prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my gf these days xD
Ah okay. Well yeah for a door of that height that might be a problem but as I said my kitchen drawers work just like that and I never had to move to the side of the drawer. (My drawers are about 2/3rds of the height of the ones in this video)
Newb question. I see you spaced the 1x4s off the ends of cabinet. is that to line up with the doors? I have the same hinges. If so where do the pocket screws attach to on the door side? face frame? thanks I have an 8 ft cabinet that just a box and doors lol
KissMyAxe i'm hoping that I'm reading your question correctly, they attach on the inside portion of the face frame. They are just offset because the door sticks inward because of the hinges. If I mounted it flush with the face frame I then the drawer slides would hit the door.
Rock-n H Woodshop yes. I revisited the video and at 2:08 you show how you atrached to the face frame. sorry about the confusion haha. appreciate the reply 👊
+KissMyAxe I made the 1x4's sit proud of the face frame because the drawer slides would hit the cabinet doors as the drawer is extended. If you notice when you open the doors on your cabinets they are not backset enough for a drawer slide to clear. So you have to accommodate that.
Hey drew thats awesome! Did the same for some friends years ago and even took off the fake fronts and added one drawer to each side of the sink and the center one became a flipout! Keep it up!
