Thank you very much. Not many videos are as clear as this one. I particularly liked the use of the shim on the last joint.

Yeah man thank you! I love it. Apart from the fact my home made router table is a bit out of whack around the bit, I have just made a kickass box joint. Did it in light and dark wood. Its going to be for exposed corners on a work table drawer for middle daughter. Its a simple join but it does my head in working out the fingers. Then I am going to make some drawers to finally organize my fishing tackle. By the time I have done that I should get the hang of it.

Yes Sergio, more videos. I have to say that your English is very good, but I love your accent and some of your repeat sayings like "and I clamp it", when I'm in my shed I find myself saying these things out loud while mimicking your accent "and I cut it". Please don't take offence, I mean it in the nicest possible way. :)

Sooo, I built this jig yesterday following your excellent video. Only thing I'd like to add is that you can stack the pieces that need routing out using the offset block and route two pieces at once, saves a bit of time and gives a very accurate result. I doubt this is news, but worth pointing out if (like me) you've never done it before.
@wufflesthespider
@wufflesthespider 7 лет назад
Whips through it nicely with a spiral bit.
@wufflesthespider
@wufflesthespider 7 лет назад
Festool and (much cheaper, and possibly the same thing but rebadged) ELU do them. Only problem is they're normally 8mm shank so you'll need a new collet or at a pinch, use an adaptor. I'm just finishing up making a dust extraction piece I can place opposite the jig then I can try it out and report back.
@wufflesthespider
@wufflesthespider 7 лет назад
Following up on this, my dust extraction sucks (not in a good way) but the spiral bits are working very well indeed.
@martinvanzyl747
@martinvanzyl747 7 лет назад
Would I be right thinking that a spiral bit would cause less tear-out? Just worried about the expense of buying one and then finding there is very little improvement.

I try to use a different milling cutters(diameters and manufacturers - even CMT, even slowly), but in case of plywood have a bad result - splits into slivers. I'm so sad( I think this method for a solid wood only...

Thank you very much, Sergio. Although, there are many other finger joint jigs on RU-vid, I find yours one of the best, because it is simple and explanations/guiding is right to the point, focused on the project without much unnecessary talking. I made one exactly the same jig and it works just fine, but I have to ask you how to avoid chipping. I used new ½” bit, but still one side chipped badly. Any tips will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

To me this is the best way to make box joints (or finger joints). I see lots of youtube videos with $200 dado sacks and complicated advancing jigs, but this method seems to produce great results with the least amount of effort and expense. Thanks!

what kind of bit do you use,,i have tried using a straight bit with a 1/4 shaft and it will not cut the wood
@flyingpictures1100
@flyingpictures1100 6 лет назад
Jeff, Should not matter what size drive you use. Could be your bit is blunt, I buy cheepies on eBay, they work fine. Also, possible you are using a bit with a bearing on the top, they are for trimming using templates. . Apologies if your skill set has taken these points into consideration. I wanted to help because its such a great join and so useful.
