You're the first truly synth programmer I've ever seen during my 40 years as a synth programmer myself (from the music composing side) that uses the same kind of approach than me!!! I'm really glad, and I do really enjoy your videos!!!

Nice patch. That synth has mojo just oozing out of each circuit, wow. Thanks for another excellent video. One thing I liked about the Sub 37 was how easy its modulation hub made this kind of sound design. A resonant ladder filter is such a beautiful tool.

I think you made a heartbeat instead! But that works for a kick drum, too! Not for rock/metal but softer stuff. I bet it can make a decent one for most other stuff like electronic and things that don't have to sound exactly like a real kick drum. Seems like a fun time trying to dial up sounds. I've got Addictive Drums 2 and I can get pretty much ANY kick drum ever made (Linn, 808, 10 different real kick drum samples) but it's nice to roll your own and just go there and get into the details. I suppose it's like making a food from scratch. There is a sense of learning and accomplishment. thx for all the vids!!!

Oh i love watching you work. You "went after" the patch, that's the fun of analogue synths for me, that process of listening analysing and refining the sound with respect to the equipment your using. plus some 'outside the box' thinking. Brilliant!

ALWAYS something to learn from your videos. Awe inspiring and I must hurry over to the Model D and Model 15 to try this. Sadly don't have a real Mini. 10 more sounds, 10 more minimoogs and you can build a huge 909. That would be fun to watch.
@juno6
@juno6 7 дней назад
Today Ive learned something... I thought you couldn't do good kicks on a Mini because it stops self oscillating at 100hz or something. Never though of using the filter PLUS an oscillator. That´s a clever trick. Thank you Tony.
@SpencerTaylorOnline
@SpencerTaylorOnline 8 дней назад
This is extremely clever! I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone using a MiniMoog for drum sounds before, nor did I know 10cc did it.
@Shred_The_Weapon
@Shred_The_Weapon 7 дней назад
The earliest iteration of the synthesized kick with the high filter resonance instantly puts me in mind of - not 10cc but - a band whose members have collaborated with 10cc, the Moody Blues. Their 1981 ballad single, “Talking Out of Turn”, features a similar sound to that one. I always thought Greame Edge patched it on a Simmons SDS model, but this demo is making me wonder if it was synthesized by Patric Moraz on a Moog.

Thank you, I've never seen this type of tutorial on this type of equipment. My dad grew up listening to artists who used one of these. He said the jazz kick you dialed in reminded him exactly of John Densmore's kit at the beginning of "Break on Through" as he performs it on the record, but can heard more clearly in his performance in "The Doors: The Doors(Classic Albums)" documentary film. That was entertaining. I wonder what other kinds of drum sounds can you make with a Minimoog? Ingenious peice of equipment.

Can’t argue with the result ( and don’t want to!). But, this may be one area where my poor man’s MM ( Grandmother) may have an edge? It can essentially do this, but/and you can also use the Env out via attenuator to osc 2 pitch. Anyway, you got it!

Hey Anthony, I have a question about an old school kick drum technique... I was watching a video of Cerrone talking about how for his song "Supernature" he took an SM58 and tapped on the metal grille with his finger to create the kick drum. Was this common back in the day, basically thumping on a microphone to produce a kick?

I'm wondering how you record these videos. I would assume that you record the synthesizer directly to the recording device, but then, how do you hear it? If you hear the synth through speakers, which I don't see, your mic is going to record it and then the sound from the synth is going to be doubled in the recording, which is always bad. Or you are wearing earphones, and I don't see them... Or you have a gate on your mic to mute it when the synth is playing... How is it done here?

Thanks for that Anthony, I created a comprehensive patch centred around a Rhodes EP that includes backing drums, bass and vocal backdrop effects for 'I'm Not In Love' on my Korg Kross some years ago but this deeper focus on the kick sound has inspired me to return to it and do something with it to give the kick a deeper resonance and increase the heart beat emphasis of its sound...I have a video demo of me singing it from years ago but am much better at singing it now, when I made the video demo had only just learnt it so the vocals are a bit sketchy in comparison to the precision and how much I've honed it now vocally and is in comparison when I listen back a bit rough... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d5-YW46FnEc.html
