Hello guys welcome to my channel my name is Geoffrey. Am in Machakos Kenya. Today we are in our farm. We will be setting an azolla pond. We will be setting a 4m by 1m pond 20cm deep. We will be setting it on this space here. So guys here we be setting a simple pond. This is the cheapest pond you can make. This will cost you less than 2000 kshs (1.5 usd). We have chosen this specific place simply because of the partial shade. This tree here will be providing shade to the azolla. As you can see now it has shade and it’s in the morning hours and there is shade. Azolla will receive sunlight during the afternoon. If you want to have a good azolla farm think of partial shade first. You can choose to use a shade net if you are able but here we doing the cheapest so we using shade from this tree. U need to also think of a way which use when refilling the pond, here we will use gravity we syphon from our water tank. We have finished setting up our pond its 4m by 1m by 20cm depth. We will be using a construction paper for this purpose. 1000 gauge polythene paper. it’s mainly found in the hardware stores its cheap and 36m long. After cutting the paper to our desired length we have cut 6m long because it will overlap the raised ground. Since we doing the cheapest pond. We are hustlers in bad economy so we have to do the cheapest pond split this paper to form a big sheet. Spread it well. And use rocks to place on the edges to avoid the paper from being blown by wind . a myth which says that Ukambani being dry doesn’t have water. A big lie underground we have a lot of water within machakos. Shallow wells . we have finished setting up the paper. We are now filling the pond with water. This is dry cow droppings this is what we will be using to fertilize our azolla . if you want your azolla to do well. U will need to use cow dung. Either the fully decomposed cow dung or this dry am using. We prefer to use the dry droppings cause it doesn’t burn the azolla. We add water to the cow droppings and crush to form a slurry that’s what we add to our pond. The slurry is ready this is how we add it to the pond . we will be setting a new pond on this space here. Same as this one 4m by 1m 20cm depth. We will be doing a video on that and show you the progress of this pond we have set 14 days from today. Our farm is expanding. We have harvested today from this pond and the one there, 10 kgs we have fed it to chicken and ducks. For the seeds we are going to plant in the pond we will be harvesting from this pond. We will be harvesting a kg . this is how I harvest. Azolla reproduces by spores ie. Splitting to many different plants. Now our azolla pond is ready. The manure has not fully settled and it make take up to two days to fully settle. But for the sake of the video we will move direct to planting azolla . here is a trick if you want your azolla to multiply and fill the pond easily just watch what am doing. Rub it this way.
