I’ve been stamping 33 years. So, I was definitely around during the wood block stamping. I still have an entire flat file of those stamps, and still use them sometimes. One of the tools I have, and have enjoyed using back then and now, is the crimping tool. The cardstock or envelope gets run through the crimper (I have a wide wooden one), and it leaves the sort of corrugated cardboard pattern. By folding the paper or envelope first, I can get herringbone, etc. crimped designs. TFS!

I admire your impeccable ability to use tiny images in amazing ways be it stencils, dies, or stamps! It’s really your own unique ability! I’ve never seen anyone do so much with small images or dies, etc. bravo Ardyth! I looked at that set after you bought that TJ stamp you love so much but thought, I like it it’s cool but what would I do with all those tiny things! I’m afraid since I take 10 hours to do what you could in 20 minutes, I don’t have the patience! But I love and admire you all the more for this exceptional ability! Fantastic!

All lovely Ardyth, as usual, thank you. I think my card making journey started 5 1/2 years ago, so I miss the stampamajigs, apologies for spelling, but I have heard of one and made a makeshift Lego version. In the short time I've been cardmaking, I've seen so many different ink application tools! I do love the mid mod shapes, I do have a designated drawer for my stamps and dies, I'm fascinated by them, and the cats! I was born in 66, and remember the designs so well, and everyone's grandparents had a long necked cat on the mantle piece. 😊❤❤❤
@ardyth

YES! So clever to make your own with lego - I think a t-ruler would work too, as long as it was thick enough to catch the block. And that cat is definitely a 60s/70s icon! I can picture it now! Thanks so much for watching!

I think a lot of the tools and products I started out with in the 90’s work better than some of the newer stuff. I’ve gotten out some of my “vintage “ card making stuff too lately. My corner rounder and eyelets especially. Ribbon has been making a comeback as well as pattern paper! There is such a constant push for purchasing new products, which can quickly get expensive. I grow quite weary of it. Crafting fads come and go, the main thing is to have fun and actually use what you have!

I almost did last year but just is a hard time to buy for me with Christmas gifts! I’m an organizer freak for sure! I don't have a die machine but I do make dots for embellishments the way you do, and then use various sized hole punches to make the dots and shapes i need. It is so much more affordable and I can use left over paper cuts to do it. And yes, I was around and stamping when there was only wood blocks and ink pads. When that caught on so many new things began to show up on the market. Thanks for going back to old school for a day.

Yes, I still have my old-fashioned stamp positioner, and I still love my old wood-mounted rubber stamps. Almost 30 years ago, (😮) when I first started, I had to be more resourceful. Sometimes, I feel like I was more creative then, especially when I look at my old cards (yes, we've kept them all that were given within the family 😊). I used to be known as "the wallpaper queen" because of how I created backgrounds from smaller stamps and household items. I feel so old 😂. Not very often do I feel like I must have the same stamps I see in videos, but I really do need those 60's shapes 😁 I love what you did with them! As always, these designs are creative and so funky!

I still have a Stampamajig and its original plastic sheet, even though I’ve only been stamping for about 11 years. I still use some old tools but one I don’t see anymore are these little, white hard foam rollers that are great for inking embossed images, without getting too much ink on the background. They work great for the newer 3D folders. They were made by Darice, and I still have them and use them. I gave away my punches but I kept ones that punch out shapes like little hearts, faster than looking for tiny dies. Love your cards!
@ardyth

On the pointy thing congrats card -- I like that the color is not precisely in the outline. I like that it's slightly "off". That stamp that you aid it looks like a "virus" -- I think it looks like a brassy mirror we had hanging over the sofa well into the 80s. 🙄 the single stamped line happy birthday card is actually my favorite. Definitely groovy cards! I had a Stamp-a-ma-jig and tons of red rubber stamps. I've since ditched the old tool and removed all the stamps from the wooden blocks to save space. They are all in a binder now. Anyway, love, love all the cards and the bright colors.

I love learning about new ideas for tools I already have. I have the fun Simon Hurley stripe pull apart stamp, but I hadn’t thought to use it with other stamps. I’ve just been making plaids and other stripe designs. Another commenter mentioned an old tool that I have: Inkadinkado’s Stamping Gear. Do you remember those? I bought all of it. Well, maybe not all the stamps that accompanied the gears, but definitely all of the gears. Oval, circle, rectangle, square. Lots of the stamps too. The stamp paddles that came with the gears were designed for cling rubber stamps. But there are few videos on RU-vid that show you how to adapt the paddles so they will work with clear stamps too. Bonus? I recently figured out how to use the stamping gear with the mini shapes gel plates. So now I can make patterns with the mini gel plates too. By setting up different sized gel plates, I can be working on three different prints at the same time. I use the 5x7 plate like an ink pad and the 8x10 pad for stencils so I can add patterns to the mini plates. I pick up paint from the 5x7 plate and then impress a pattern from the 8x10 plate before stamping the mini plate using the stamping gear for placement. I periodically pull prints from both the 5x7 plate and the 8x10 plates. I wind up with the larger patterned prints, 5x7 prints, and 8x10 prints all from the same gel printing session.

I saw that comment and need to google the stamping gear. Oh, I see it - it's like a precursor to the stampwheel. Fun! And how clever that you can use them with the gel plates. You sound like a gel print master! I'd love to see some of the prints! Thanks so much for watching!

The StampWheel is a very good tool if you like circular patterns. If you start simple like what I did here, you will very quickly get the hang of it. Thanks so much for your kind words!

I have remounted all of my red rubber stamps EXCEPT for my Stampin Up sets that have layered flowers. I still have those sets, intact, with permanent Stamp a ma jig " guides" stamped on acetate in the case. I love my stamp positioner, but the old Stamp a ma jig still has it's uses!

thank you so much for your helpful demos. I love how you show ideas that haven't worked for you, and then you've set about changing them. I have loads of smaller stamps and I'm going to try using them in repeat patterns. I bought a stamping platform about 3 years ago and don't use it enough.

I love the cards…the first one reminds me of a dress I had in the 60’s still have a lot of wood block stamps. Every time i think about getting rid of them, I remember I have just the stamp i need to finish a project. I don’t have a Stampamajig but I do have something similar with a n “L” shaped acrylic block and an acrylic sheet. I think the Stampamajig is better.

I never had a stamp-a-ma-jig, I borrowed some Duplo from my sons’ collection. Rubber stamping was still so frustratingly imprecise that I gave up until clear stamps came along. Fun to see you use three different positioners in the same video! And those retro Mid-century Modern shapes are the bomb! Such creative cards.

Precision is not my virtue so I’d mess up during this process so I would not entertain adding and adding things that could go wrong so easily but I admire your exact stamping. Way to go! The Altenew stamp positioner is the most precise way to stamp that I’ve used.
