Really nice smoke bombs. If you experiment with the size of the hole in the top (choke) you change the burn time and temperature. This increases amount of smoke but decreases burn time. I find about 1 to 2 mins to be good. You can also make additional holes in the mix 👍🏻
"I don't know why I'm running, it's not going to explode"....I've had some that have. They were store bought but as they started smoking you could hear the pressure of the smoke escaping rise significantly just a few seconds before it detonated into a sphere of flaming chunks. Just saying be careful man, even on 'safe' pyrotechnics. Wouldn't want you getting injured.
Its legal to make these as long as you dont travel with them. Also its just KCLO4 stump remover and sugar. Me and my daughter made a volcano for a science project with this as well worked great.
That was great!! Thanks for the video. I know you said the ratio was 3:2 for potassium nitrate to sugar, but didn’t hear anything about how much wax to use. Do you remember how many grams of wax came in the bag you used?
Came here after doing a search for smoke grenades for a film project where we want to fill a forest full of smoke. These look outstanding - great video !
We’re planning a hiking trip in the wilds. It’s really annoying, in the U.K. they make it impossible to buy a simple smoker to signal in case of an emergency.! How we meant to mark our position for a hellivac.?
No u because I think it would be classified underneath our terrorism laws as an item which could be used in an attack. It’s ridiculous, even in this posting he mentions about not being able to get the Potassium nitrate “over the borders”. Establishment is very scared of anything that could possibly be used in civil unrest or as part of a direct act of terrorism. It’s a joke, what are you gonna do with one marker smoke such as purple or yellow. Something which would mark your position very well...probably save lives too.!
I'd say get one of those paper towel rolls and take all the paper of it cut it in half and glue a piece of cardboard on top and bottom and put something in that that creates a lot of smoke and put a fuse in the top and light it
Great video, do you happen to know the laws of doing this in Canada? Also, I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard you can make it coloured smoke by grinding up coloured chalk and putting it into the mixture, or by melting oil pastels instead of Wax.
Focus on the regular smoke first, the burn temp has to be just right to get color or you won't get anything but the same gray mix he has. Use 35g sugar 65kno3 and 29g parrafin wax and it will be fine. Take a pencil and poke hole all way down tube vs just 2 inches, then allow to dry put in a paper plug and then make a nozzle with plaster of Paris. If you do that you will have thick white smoke and tons of it.
Btw you dont need oxygen for burning and excess oxygen aint possible the reason is that the KNO3 aka potassium nitrate is an oxidant which means when mixed with fuel aka sugar when lit up it releases oxygen.and so you cant have a lack of oxygen no matter what or excess also. And so I recommend you to do some research on the chemistry part first so that you dont sound stupid to others.not dissing you im just trying to help you and educate you a lil bit
You might be really nice, but the way you phrased your reply doesn't make you sound that way. If you're attempting to help, may I suggest you might try reading what you've written as if it'd been sent to you, then assess how you'd feel having received it? You are potentially correct, however there are ways, & then other ways, of delivering that assistance. Doctors call it bedside manner. Mind you, some of them are sadly lacking in that department!

That's precisely what I wanted to know, the ratio of sugar to PN is 2/3, but how much wax????? We're making all sorts of stuff here in England, as we're not allowed to buy it, not sure it's safe for YT though!
@@JoseRomero-wb3be Jose, that is fantastic, thank-you so much! We're trying all sorts of things, mainly dry powders which don't seem to go too well, until you add 25% home-made black powder mix, then they get themselves going fairly well. I made my first wax one this afternoon, we're having a test session Wednesday night so that'll get fired then. I used icing sugar but I'm told that contains something to stop the combustion so I'm also trying with caster sugar, both 'straight' an milled finely, with the nitrate. Those will get made tomorrow & again, fired Wednesday night. If I can get this right it'll save me a packet on commercial smoke this year. If we get any work with this nasty little cough which is doing the rounds. Anyway, thanks again, Phil.
