Nice, remembering good old days!! When we were kids, we did not like the edges of bread so we left it over, My mother would collect them and make bread crumbs of them. There was always a supply of bread crumbs at home.

a more efficient way is to store the crusts that you cut off when you make sandwiches, and once youve got plenty, just toast them and crumb them. on grinding the crusts make coarser crumbs than the whites, as the whites get powedered easily
