HOW TO MAKE ANY CARTOON CHARACTERS OUT OF WOOD FOR YARD ART! (MAKING THE OOGIE BOOGIE FROM THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS) 😱 #diy #yard-art #Christmas decorating #oogie boogie #Nightmare before Christmas #Cartoons #christmas
@@MHS_ART Gotcha, I saw after I typed my comment your other video showing you freehand some elf. Not sure what projector would be best, I must have saw somewhere someone using some projector for larger scale copying of prints/drawings/sketches etc.
Thank you so much for posting, you are inspiring me to start my own little side business. I made one years ago but didn’t have the confidence to sell them.
Just started doing this myself. I love it but I’m learning. Thanks for putting these videos up brother! I’m gonna try this your way and see what happens lol
Hey Michael, I'm in australia. Love your work. My teenager is wanting to get into this hobby for easter and xmas next year. He is stuck on all the materials/paints etc that he need.
Do you use two different jigsaw like one for little cut out details or is it just one that does it all? Or is just different kinds of blades that you use for more of the detail cuts?
D Trevino no I just use a portable jigsaw for everything. I forgot the name of mine I’m not home but any will work. Get one with a cord becaues portable ones don’t last long on cutting. I use a blade that says for wood use
I would say no. A jigsaw can get you bro hard corners and do turns while a circular saw is a straight cut. Unless you cutting out a box shape or a triangle or somthing like that
Hi Michael! Thanks for sharing this! It inspired me to make some for my yard for this Halloween and I’m super excited! I am in a little bit of a hard spot tho now. How do you usually prop up the cut outs? And what do you use to seal the paint??
Amy Thoms thanks for watching!! I have a video on my channel that shows how to stand them up. You can use any waterproof outdoor sealent they sale at like Home Depot in the paint department
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these. We did a Grinch theme as a family project this year calling it "Operation Whobilation" in conjunction with a toy drive and collecting for the animal shelter. They are so cute and we get so many compliments. So thanks for all the tips. I did find the markers you were using but I had one problem: After we painted everything we outlined it with the markers. We sprayed them with the sealer you used but in some places the marker ran and we had to repaint. Should I have sprayed it first and then outlined it? Appreciate advice on this because we are still making stuff. Thanks!
Mz. A. That’s awesome to hear!! What I do is when I spray it I spray from a distance and let it dry than repeat a few more times. Should be no drippy lines after that. Don’t spray a lot on at once.
When you’re cutting out your cut outs, does the plywood chip and if so how do you stop it from chipping? What size blade do you use on your Ryobi jigsaw
My mom just started her little business on making wood props. She has a craftsman jigsaw but lately it's been messing up on her. So I want to surprise her with a better one. Do you have any suggestions?
How do you make them is good. What I mean is, do draw them by hand or do you trace them from other paper? Is there some place I can fine those drawing? Thank you.
Thank you for walking us through your design and production process. These look awesome! Question: what grit do you use to sandpaper the edges? Any brands you recommend? Thanks again for the inspiration!
Bonnie Holmes thanks for watching!! What used actually is a rough sponge type that is actually use for drywall lol it works awesome on edges. You can get them by the drywall in Home Depot or lowes
Katie I bought some green glow in the dark paint but it didint go on that good. So I just paint over it. Maybe paint it first than add the glow in the dark paint over it might work 👍
@@MHS_ART I was curious, I've had some in the past that didn't really glow very well. That green makes it look like he's already glowing anyways. Awesome job!
Katie oh I see. Yea I need to experiment with it more. Hey are you a follower of me on tik tok? If not check it out I make kool videos I think lol my user name is mstruss_art
What kind of saw do we need? My husband wants to make cutouts like this to go with out animation light show but I want to buy him a saw that will work for Christmas or his bday in Feb?
It's a jigsaw he uses in the video. I would get whatever brand of tools you own the most of. Often the batteries are universal. And for Santa's sake make sure you buy one that accepts T- shank blades! Merry christmas!
You can use a projector screen but unfortunately I don’t have a video for that. Type in projector yard art or somthing like that. Sorry I could Not help
geat videos thank you for the How Tos..... just a quick question... cna you see the black lines through the paint? or how do you know where to draw that black lines once youve given the coats of paint?
The one I have it’s portable but not home right now to look at the name brand. But any jigsaw will work. Good tip is get one where it has a cord becaues the portable ones don’t last long cutting
I got to make some charlie brown cutouts for my sister but Im stuck at how to draw the outlines. What kind of marker did you use to draw the lines?? Can I use black paint with a certain brush maybe?
Christmas Man I am over by Peachland. What is your Facebook name and I will message the directions. Only will have 15 characters and some lights but def feel free to check it out👍👍
@@MHS_ART I saw that after... unfortunately I can't use rebar cuz we habe artifical grass. We'll have to figure something else out. Thank you for your reply tho
@@MHS_ART looking for the pen now, im making a small one and using a matt finish paint, should the marker be oil based or water based? Thanks Michael :)
It’s a sheet on interior plywood about half inch. The jig saw I use is called ryobi but you can use any jig saw. Make sure you get a plug in one not portable
Thank you. Yeah I freehand all of these. You can use a old school projector you can get on eBay for cheap and print the image out. There are prob videos on the projectors.
@@MHS_ART What Brand If Ya Dont Mind Me Asking? I Made A Huge Grinch About 8ft Two Years Ago & Just Finished Max This Year. Wish They Let Ya Post Pics So You Could See. But The Worst Thing Is Whenever I Seal With Clearcoat Sometimes The Sharpie Raises & Shows Itself From My Tracing & Designing ... Annoying!! I Really Liked Your Idea For Having Them Stand In The Yard I Watched It Earlier, I Usually Just Prop Them Up Somehow. My Process Is Very Different.
@@MHS_ART Thank you for sharing this video Michael. Beautiful work! I agree with you, if people think your video was not too instructive then move on. No need for rude comments. Just ignore this bitter person 🙄
@@ingridm4276 thank you I appreciate that. I’m not a master at giving steps and instructions but at least I try my best to help people out. In person I am a very shy guy and have a hard time keeping conversation with people. Well thanks again
