SUBSCRIBED…..such a very clear and detailed step by step tutorial.I have cast iron cookware from a company and they sell a chain mail scrubber so I bought it.Got to thinking about chain mail type thing to wear on my head then thought about a bracelet to wear,came to RU-vid and saw the pic of cross you made so I watched the whole video.I wear a gold cross and like the one you made.Some questions….. 1) Where would I by the silver and copper chain mail from ¿ 2) What type hand tools would I need ¿ 3) Is every link on the items you make soldered after you bend link into position ¿ 4) Main question is what’s name of the soldering machine Felt I owed you the respect of watching the complete video very good craftsman!!! I am here in ATLANTA GA I make items from MILITARY PARACORD,and might look to doing this also. Have PTSD / DEPRESSION so crafting helps seems can’t go out anymore to have dinner or something like that without some idiots causing problems. 1st CAV / 4th ID hOOah 🇺🇸🇮🇪 THANK YOU

Your tutorials are the best. The numbers and layout help me so much. I don't count so well in my old age. :P But I have more time to enjoy myself. Your counts and layouts make it easy to know that I have the required sizes, colors and amounts so when I begin to work I have the perfect layout. And if I make a mistake I see it right away. Were you an instructor earlier in your life? I think of you very warmly.

I am so glad that you took the time and effort on how to make this cross. I had to teach myself the mathematics behind getting the ratio right. if it's too big it will be floppy and too little the rings won't fit. you are a very good teacher.

Thanks Jean... and well said. I started making jewellery as I was disappointed at the poor quality of the mass produced junk on the high street. I agree it's important to keep the old skills alive. I'm going to second Connie's response to you! Had this tutorial by another person which was written out and got SO frustrated last night and injured because not only were the rings too small that they specified, but they didn't show us the tips you did for getting the rings to go through smoothly. If you were ever wondering if your video is appreciated, I'm here to say it is a true blessing that in turn, will bless even more people that get one of these for a Christmas gift. Now if I can locate someone that has some good quality rings as I've been off doing other crafts and have lost some of those connections. Really really thank you SO VERY MUCH for this clear and wonderful video and for letting us know which rings will work beautifully! ♥

Mr. Wilson, have yet to make my first piece of chain mail, couldn't decide where to start! After finding your channel have watched several of your videos, you are extremely talented in your jewelry craft, instruction, and photography skills! Have decided to make this piece using your video as my first attempt with chain mail! This is perhaps a little tricky for a first attempt. I'd always recommend the byzantine to start, as its quite easy. Then try the full Persian, before having a go at the cross. That said, each video is fully explained, but the experience of the other two will definitely help. Good luck. Dave

I just wanted to stop by and say how much really do appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. I have been studying a lot of the old craft I saw the elders doing as i was a little girl. Byzantine was usually made or handed down in my family. But sadly my family has disbanded and old knowledge and history was lost. I have been making a strong effort with my own children to teach all that I can. And I want to make them and my husband kings chains. I especially think it would be great to make one for my da. I tried making these crosses without the pepe tools. I just went out and bought some wood doweld and wrapped my wire around them and cut it. I couldnt find metric dowels and just eyeballed the sizes. My crosses are kind of droopy, i would imagine its becauae i dont have the right sized dowels to wrap the wire around. Cant wait to get the pepe jump ring kit. Thanks Dave!
@CelticDreamsCoUk
@CelticDreamsCoUk 5 лет назад
If its floppy, then that will be down to the central rings, they are what add the tension, so just cut them a little bigger. Awkward to close the last one, but that's the point. the four corner rings pull in and the two large rings push out. hence the rigid shape. best of luck. Dave

This is perhaps a more tricky thing to start on. If you fancy having a go, then start with the byzantine. Surprisingly simple to do, and only requires a couple of pliers. see thelink. Dave ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OmNRbWeKASM.html

925 Sterling silver, and the wire is pure copper. I normally just work in silver, or 9ct, but used copper as above for contrast. Dave

Hi, I've just found your channel today and I'm really enjoying it. This is an excellent tutorial, with clear and easy to follow instructions. Boy, I sure could've used this a little over a year ago. I made 25 of these as keychain fobs. But I kind of figured out how to make it on my own (without proper instructions, except for the basic Persian 6 in 1 chain) by studying a picture of a completed cross and lots of experimentation. I made things more difficult than it needed to be by working from the center outward. Your instructions look much easier. Thanks for the great tutorial.

Thanks, there's always more than one way to do something. My aim here was to make the project simple to follow in steps. Do check out my Full Persian video and byzantine video too (if you haven't already). Thanks for watching. Dave

@@CelticDreamsCoUk No worries. Also, just wanted to say thanks for your channel--been a big help as I've dipped my toes in the world of practical application of chain technique more'n just the 4-in-1 butted mail for shirts/coif/gloves of armour. Up til this year, I'd never really considered it something you could make *beautiful* as well as functional. Your channel has really opened my eyes to a lot of possibilities with that--not only for jewelry, but also in decorative chain armour!
