Good news Corporal , you are #1 on my suggestion list every time now. First some bogus ad video then your videos. I've scrolled to the first video i could find and let it play while i work and when I'm chillen around the camp.
Anchor's Away...my boys anchors away, farewell to college boys we sail at break of day day day day...through our last night on shore dream of the foam....I have a story from my recent past when I was caught in a 35 mph plus headwind and 5 metre ocean swell off of Portavadie, Scotland in my Riot 12 sea kayak. This was one of two songs I sang for about 25 minutes waiting for the RNLI to arrive to bring me to the marina. The other was a voyageur song...ma boule roulant. I took about two weeks to recover from the muscle pain in my back, hands and legs. Thank God for two songs and the RNLI...and a belligerent and stubborn personality.
An empty shoe polish can works great (I prefer the large ones) and the little twist lever on the side helps because sometimes the lids get stuck after the can has been on a fire. There's room inside for a good sized flint, a striker, a bunch of jute twine for an emergency bird's nest, a stubby piece of candle,as well as the char cloth. I put the char cloth in the bottom of the tin in a small Ziploc bag to protect it.
Thanks Corporal - tried this today...actually used denim...doesn't seem like it COMPLETELY charred, but it lights with a spark well-enough. Great video!
Excellent. I have a propane burner similar to what you used. good to know I have an adequate heat source and don't have to have coals or some other open fire. This weekend's project!
I made willow charcoal for drawing a couple of times by wrapping willow twigs in aluminum foil and then letting that sit for a while in the hot ash in the fireplace. This looks less messy--no ash all over your fingers when you unwrap the finished product. LOL
In the days we live, I continue to seek the Lord for guidance and to study ways to survive the coming destruction of the US. As I was looking for ways to make char cloth, you vid came up, as i have watched you many times and learned much...I ventured in, my first notice was the years past since you made this video...7...the number of the Lord for the number 7 is His number of perfection, so the Lord led me here...secondly as a old US Army Dog, I've sought the Lord and His will about fighting the evil that is within the borders of our Nation...the quote at the end of your video is confirmation that as a Christian I am sent to fight the evil and call out evil, both in the church and the world. I give thanks to the Almighty Lord God, for He is a shinning Light in this darkened world. Praise be to the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit, my GOD, One in Three.
Uh, doesn't actually have to be cotton. I've made char from newspaper, paper towels, cardboard, leaves, pretty much anything natural. Man made stuff like nylon won't work.
While making char cloth with using tin can method, you need to make a hole. Does this method also need some kind of hole or are the seams make enough air flow available?
Being a former Marine myself, I enjoy your videos. Just a thought, could a old worn out white t shirt cut up in pieces work as well? I also use t shirt patches for my Hawkins rifle and pistols.
Thanks Cpl! How long does char cloth usually last? I have some pieces that are a few years old but won't ignite. No big deal, I'll just make some more but was just curious. Thanks, Aaron.
I have been considering the PF ss canteen set but it looks to me that the cup will not cover the wide mouth of the canteen for making char cloth. thoughts on this?
Thank you corporal. having an altoid tin box is hard to find in the Philippines and if not it maybe expensive. with this simple solution you explained and shared to us, you actually extended my will to survive, be it natural disasters or man made disaster.. When all else fail.. survivalist and prepper will be there.
Magic word today kids is IMAGINATION THINK ABOUT HOW TO DO SOMETHING WITH OUT YOUR REGULAR SOMETHING AND WALAH RESULTS THE SAME. NOW EVERY BODY THANK THE CORPORAL WITH A BIG 👍
Unfortunately, I find tin foil at a lot of the campsites I come across, so this is a pretty realistic method if one was hung up in the national forest without comms.
Good for those who are just starting out , to know. Just like a Altoids tin doesn't need a hole punched in it. But I like what our forefathers and Mountain men used and is replenish able, about anywhere there is wood. I think Punkwood is a lot better , because the ember lasts a lot longer.
That salute and the video ending saying "It is better to perish fighting for freedom than to live as a slave" is AWESOME! We may have to fight on our own land in the U.S. with the many muslim cells here since the 1960's and ISIS getting stronger around the world. We need not be paranoid, but, be prepared.
