This is great idea I going to use this Idea for floaters. But for the way you set them up for field use. When the wind comes up how do get them to stop just spinning in a circle. And the silicone spray. Did it make them shiney
How resilient to water is that paper, I was thinking if you could find some way to waterproof them they could easily be made into floaters as well with some well placed weights and added buoyancy if needed. Just like Abdullah Barak I am also looking forward to the video on how you painted them for Canadian geese. Have some ideas myself simply with a couple cans of spray paint. Looks like a very inexpensive way to make a few dozen decoys for a huge spread, especially with a 6 pack full body goose decoys costing around $200 now and the same for a dozen shell decoys.
ya it's stupid how expensive a piece of plastic that looks like a goose is. the paper is water resistant if you apply a good spray of the water proofing. but not water proof. so I wouldn't lay them in water. But they do make a Foamy board now that's covered in a plastic film instead of paper that you can find at the dollar store. if you can find that then you should have no problem making floaters with it. and the video showing how I painted them is coming. I'm thinking I'll make it this weekend
thefoxez Ok looking forward to the video on the painting. Thanks for the heads up on the plastic coating foam board. My only thoughts on that is how well the paint will stick to that, might fall off or rub off easily. I'll give a looksee and see what I think.
really like the goose silhouette, but can not find the print outs. can you post something to find the page or figure out how we can get the print. looking forward in trying this
hi Alex Harrell. all I did was Google goose silhouettes and sorted through the pics till I found some I liked. you can even use pics of real geese for your outline. then copyed and paste to the paint program and enlarged it till I had a goose size print. (that part takes time to figure out) and it'll print it out and separate sheets that you will have to cut and tape together
I never got the chance to use them yet. we couldn't find any snow geese. so I painted them to look like Canadians. I live up in grande prairie now. hopefully I'll get the chance this season to test them out
I live in Calgary. April 2016 I looked hard for snow geese, I found them around Brooks maybe around 500 of them but I was not sure about the body of water I found them. I was concerned about legal issues in that body of water so I passed on them. how are those Canada goes silhouettes? did you use them?
not off hand no. it was a trail and error till I got the size I want. I belive it took 5-6 sheets to make the silhouette if that helps. also took me three tries to get the size I wanted
Mario Jean never had a chance to go out and try them yet. life's been to busy. this year I think is the year to find out. I did set em up outside in the yard and they looked good and worked great. so can't see why they won't bring in geese
My buddy and I just ordered a bunch of coat hangers and coroplast from U-Line in Edmonton. Will be timely endeavor but much cheaper than buying store decoys! The only problem I can potentially foresee is that the coroplast might be too shiny. As such we'll likely paint the coroplast matte white. We'll be trying them out late March, early April so I'll keep you posted! I think we'll do a mixture of 2D and 3D. Cheers!
Mario Jean another thing you can try is flocking them with the white flocking powder after you paint them. not sure how much it cost. I'm guessing not much but it will 100% eliminate shine
Flocking looks like it might be too much hassle. I guess it flakes off and you need to treat them with much more care. PS, don't use U-Line, actually waaaay more expensive than we thought.
