How to make cold air intake- Saab (DIY) *no check engine light

what he should have done was keep the stock air box and cut the top to fit the new intake. This will actually keep it at normal running temperature as the stock intake. Everyone who has done this says the same thing, it stays cold. They just re-use the OE air box though. I'm going to do this soon, but I will keep my stock air box and simply cut the top, purely for that awesome spool noise.

JuryxLaVe He could run a long tube and run it down and behind the headlight. Though this isn't a performance mod just gives you that loud aftermarket BOV sound. These cars have a bypass valve (BPR / Bypass Recirculating valve) so people usually run an aftermarker Diverter Valve and not a BOV

@@AllDayFishing_ I sold the car years ago but if I remember correctly, I literally just kept the bottom half of the intake box in place and laid the cone filter on top of it. Otherwise you can literally just cut out a section of the top and feed the new intake and cone filter into the original box to keep some sort of shielding. Regardless, the intake makes little to none performance regardless of what you do. The grills still allow air as well as the hole from the fender. It just sounds nice.

Do you have a diverter valve or a blow-off valve? BOVs expel all unused Turbo (air) into the atmosphere while the diverter valve returns unused air back to the turbocharger. BOVs sound awesome but don’t return any unused boost. I suggest getting a “50/50” diverter valve/BOV. You get the sound plus returned air.

exactly^ there's a reason a k&n or high quality cold air intake cost so much its because they give you the pipes for all the vacuum lines and sensors to hook too, and it also comes with a vehicle specific heat shield with rubber around all the seals that touch the hood top! keeping the filter away from the heat!

you could also just protect the pipe from heat with heat resisting matting

+Open Your Mind I believe all Saab turbos came with intercoolers, not very large and shiny ones but with a intercoolers as most turbo cars do to my knowledge.

To prevent that code you must make sure you cut the plastic correctly to your old intake

The sai has to be connected to the intake system to work. On a 2003, like I know you have, the only way to bypass the sai without having a light on is to use a tech 2 to completely delete the system from the car. Once it's removed from the computer, just take all that sai crap off. It's just for emissions and Saab stopped using it after the 2003 Saab 9-3 model.

I wondered that as well. At least remove the top part of the box so some ram cold air gets to it more than the hot air.

take the return pipe off the dump valve it'll give you rhe turbo chatter !! bad move though as all you are doing is stalling the turbo which will result in you damaging it

Yes, as he said it comes stock with a diverter valve. You can, however, by an after market “50/50” diverter valve that vents half to the atmosphere and half back to the Turbo so you get a nice sound and good boost return.
