THANK YOU! I have my first big order for a 3 tier (12, 10, 8) cake on a Saturday. My timeline is similar. Sunday make fillings, M-W: bake, Thurs: level/tort, fill, crumb, Fri: final coat & decorate. Good to know I'm on the right track!
I love how all of your videos are just-the-facts. I am so frustrated with other channels that chit-chat or repeat over and over. It's such a waste of time when I just want to learn and move on. THANK YOU!
I really needed this. I'm just starting to bake and ending up being overwhelmed. Now I know I can properly store unfrosted cake and be ready. Thank you
I tried finding somewhere that could make my son's "first trip around the sun" cake. And I'm too picky. I wanted something unique and made just for him. SOO I'm just taking it on myself because it'd be what I want. I'm already doing his whole party myself. Balloon arch, decorations, food, I even rented a vacation rental to be able to house family comfortably. So this will be nice in the kitchen I will have access to, and with my timeline. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
This video is so useful. I love baking but have lessened due to chronic fatigue. Using these methods will help me pace to conserve energy while being able to make a delicious cake. Thank you
Thank you for the timeline. I make bento cakes and I am always overwhelmed because I try to always do everything in one day. I will be trying this thank you ❤️
Thank you so much for the example with the timeline of when to make things and how to store them. I'm having my colleague's son's birthday coming up on Saturday and have to do all the prep from baking to decoration to hand it over on Thursday/Friday. You have no idea how helpful it was!! Thanks again!!!
Thank you! This is so helpful. I always end up pulling all-nighters to get the cake done because: - I want it to taste fresh - I’ve never really known how to bake or make decorations in advance so they’re good on the day - I always take on too much and am time poor as a result. I’ve sent this video to myself as a reminder. Thanks 😊🧁
I used to be that way too. I would've NEVER worked with a frozen cake, but now I don't operate w/o it - even for a cake for the house. I can't tell the diff!
This video is amazingly helpful. I'm a homeschooling mom of 5, and I have really started enjoying making special cakes for my kids for their birthday parties. There's so much to do before a party, and now I'll be able to enjoy the cake-making process even more by pre-making all the components. THANK YOU!
Your video was super informative. Baking stresses me out because it's so much to do at one time. I had no idea I could bake ahead of time to cut out the stress of doing it all in one day. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
Yay, La'Tonya! I'm so happy you've found these tips useful and I'm cheering you on in your baking! It's so much less stressful when you spread out the tasks
Couldn't sleep, so of course I am burning my retinas watching YT (should help, right?!) ... Anyway, just came across your channel, and wanted to mention how much I appreciate the details here, but delivered in an accessible way, as well as the beautiful products you make. I look forward to watching and learning more from you! 🌻✨
Thank you so much you just made my new cake business a whole lot easier that my stress level just dropped 💯 o my God thank you. For this life saving tip. Thank you again I'm looking for more videos thank you I just subscribed to your channel. I'm so excited for me and my home business you have made such a difference in my life. I'm making changes in my life personally but today finding you I believe is a God sent this is icing on the cake...🤗🎂God bless you🫶🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾 and more great success to you.
Thank you so much for making this video. I love baking but cakes always stressed me out to the point that I mostly stopped making them unless it was requested. Now I think it'll be fun again!
This is so f'ing helpful. I really want to get good at cake decorating and love every step individually, but the whole project is always so overwhelming I rarely delve into it and this was inspiring AF.
Thank you so much for the preparation day plan, it is awesome. One do have one small query - I was wondering when I would crumb coat cake if taking the cake out of town on a Thursday but cake not needed until Saturday, it also will have fondant decorations. Thank you in advance.
you just saved my life, working 7 days a week with my kids not eating store bought cake. I will be able to bake their cakes without pulling an all nighter. Hats off to you
This video is so informative, Whitney - I especially love the timeline! One question about frosting, though: American buttercream comes together so easily, what is the advantage of making ahead? Seems like by the time you let it come to room temp and rewhip, it's longer than the initial process, plus you have to clean the mixer twice (ha). Is this to allow the colors to develop or something? Thanks!
Yay! So happy to help! Yes - making buttercream ahead is great for allowing colors to deepen. Some richer colors really benefit from having a day or more to develop. I like to make my buttercream ahead just to have everything ready to go when I'm ready to decorate. Even though buttercream is super easy to make it feels like all the hard work of baking is done when I make the elements ahead and then I can just relax and enjoy the decorating. You can absolutely make it right before you decorate though!
This was awesome thank you so much wanted to know should I wrap my crumb coated filled cake with plastic wrap before I put it in the refrigerator the day before I finish decorating it
OMG thank you so very much I have just found your channel and I think it’s fantastic as a beginner I find it very helpful I can’t wait to buy your book thank you again lots of love from Australia 🇦🇺
When do you add fondant decorations, also the night before? How do you make sure they don’t bleed into the buttercream? Do you still refrigerate a decorated cake the night before with fondant decorations? Also, do you store your fondant decorations in an airtight container right up until decorating?
HELP PLEASE…. How far in advance can I make fondant stripes to put on the side of a buttercream frosted cake needed 6 days from now? I’m so new at this that I don’t wanna leave it till the last minute. Should I try to keep the stripes soft or let them dry? I hope I get to you in time for this question. So Sorry about that. I just wanted you to see my plea for help. I’m so so happy that I found your channel! I’m kind of a beginner at this decorating thing lol! I am making a jack Skellington cake for my granddaughter’s birthday on Saturday and was stressing about decorating it at the last minute as I’m not free on the Friday. I’ve already baked my cake and frozen the layers but I am frosting with buttercream and always have a struggle with the final layer even though I crumb coat. I’m trying to keep it simple ha ha! I’m just making the cake round for the face and frosting with buttercream but I am putting fondant stripes down the side and will need to make them a few days in advance. I’ve seen a few of your videos and I’ve subscribed right away because I love your style of teaching. Thank you so much for all that you do for us🤗💕
Hi Lola! I'm so happy you've found these tips helpful for making your cake ahead! I don't work with fondant too often, but I'd recommend using this method for the stripes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kW1Bl2ncJKQ.html Make sure the buttercream frosted cake is cold and firm to the touch before adding the fondant. You should be able to decorate a couple days ahead of time and store the finished cake in the refrigerator until the day it's due. Hope that helps!
Interesting that you suggest chilling the unboxed cake in the fridge. Do you not get condensation when taking it from the fridge? And if you do how do you deal with that. Thank you.
Hi Ilina! I haven't really had to deal with cake sweating since I live in such a mild climate but I have heard that in more humid climates it can be a real problem. Here's a technique I found after Googling it though! lifehacker.com/an-easy-way-to-remove-condensation-from-delicate-cakes-1791039569#:~:text=Simply%20lay%20pieces%20of%20toilet,super%20cheap%20stuff%20for%20this. hope that helps!
I have baked and decorated cakes for decades with no issues. For the first time I tried a checkerboard cake. The cake was fine, but after decorating it all my buttercream decorations slide off the cake pulling cake with it. I cried. Any suggestions? Same butter cream and cake recipe. I do live in HHH southwestern Va , but this has never happened before. HELP, please. M and cake receipe
Your tutorial is great, could you advise me on how much buttercream I would need to fill Sponge layers and crumb coat? I will be covering my cake with fondant. Would it be possible to send me a link for a good buttercream recipe? I'm starting to get nervous about my bake. Thank you. Valerie.
I love the natural look of your video. Thank you for giving us tips in baking world. New sub and new follower here. Keep connected. Regards from Germany 🇩🇪 💖.
Great video! Can you attach hard fondant decorations to a buttercream cake in advance? If so should the buttercream be fresh or set and how do you attach the decorations? And then how do you store the cake once the decorations have been added? 😊
Does the fondant decorations get rock hard if made a week or more in advance? If it gets hard how does it stick to the side of cake without falling off it?
Hi, love your channel! I plan on making your galaxy cake for my son's birthday. Do you have a recipe for the cake sponge you use please? Vanilla or chocolate! Thanks.
