Lisa, your videos and classes are awesome. I often make dots after a project mishap- both to feel better and to repurpose mistakes. thanks

Hiiiiiiii Lisa - what kind of kiln do you have in this video.? Niiiiiiiice size! I enjoyed this video, and appreciate the key tip to have dicro coating down, unless it is black dicro (coating up). Cheers!.

It is a Skutt fire box 14. One of my favorite and probably the most used kiln in my studio :)

Bullseye has some good new information in a free video on their website. It proves that 900 is a better annealing temperature than 960.

Bullseye Glass is COE 90 and is supposed to be annealed at 900. If Lisa is using COE 96 glass, the anneal temp is 960

Why would you need to anneal at all with dots?

Do you have a scale for sizes? If I want 6mm finished, what size do I start with? That is what I’m looking for. 10mm so forth.

@@lkoho2090 wow I didn’t know that. I see now how they correlate. Thanks

Thank you for this! I'm assuming to make black dots they need to be fired dichro side up with a clear cap to make them smooth and round?
@LisaVogtglassartist
@LisaVogtglassartist Год назад
yes! With the black dichroic you'll want to keep the dichroic side up.

My dicro dots post fire in kiln yes round but all have a rough edge or sharp spur- do I need to smooth that? Hard so tiny- or can I use as they are
@LisaVogtglassartist
@LisaVogtglassartist Год назад
you can use as they are, they should soften up when fired again in whatever project you use them for.

I was wondering is the FUSEWORKS Craft KILN a OK kiln to start with as a beginner to fusing glass?
@LisaVogtglassartist
@LisaVogtglassartist Год назад
I haven't used that manufacturer before, so I have no experience with it to say if it is a good kiln to start with or not. I have used Skutt, Evenheat and Denver Glass Machinery and al three of those brands have been great to work with and very user friendly. I hope this helped!

I’m curious about your schedule. You used 500 to 960 for anneal, is there a reason you’re not going AFAP? Thank you in advance!
@LisaVogtglassartist
@LisaVogtglassartist 10 месяцев назад
500 degrees is a placeholder, I am setting the kiln so that in effect it will cool AFAP. It basically tells the kiln to not turn back on. It allows it to cool at the rate that the kiln itself will naturally come down to room temperature. I hope this helps clarifies things.

Why not shelf paper besides cost?
@LisaVogtglassartist
@LisaVogtglassartist 5 месяцев назад
shelf paper tends to stick to the bottom of art work that you need to clean off before re-firing and with dots it can be tedious.
