How To Make DIY Coral Frag Tiles/Plugs

This week I am making DIY Coral Frag Tiles with coral sand and white cement to sit on my frag racks and grow Zoas or other corals over.
This is similar to making DIY live rock just without the oyster shell or salt needed, this method could also be used to make Frag plugs or discs with a different mould!

Literally had a similar idea. Great stuff. The snapping makes it perfect. Thanks! Edit: have you considered using cooking spray to coat the crating to avoid the sticking? My idea is also to use some coarse aquarium salt in the mixture. Then when the frag tiles are being cured in the water, it will desolve and cause pores for critters perhaps. I have tried with grey cement thus far, but it has made it quite brittle, my cement to sand ratio may have been too weak though. I'm still doing some RnD.

The cooking spray is a great idea! I will need to try that in future! So adding salt was the initial plan based on the Esox thread on the ultimate reef forum for making diy live rock and I love all the critters and life (although I find plenty mico brittle stars and stuff still get into the indents under the tiles) on an early attempt I tried the salt but because of how thin the tiles were they were too soft and brittle it may of been my mix ratio, would be great if it worked. Yeah getting the mix right is the hard part every cement and sand is a little different so can take a few attempts, I may or may not bother with the white cement again my few tiles I have in the display are now being covered in coraline so doesn't matter too much, good luck with your tiles!

where can i get that exact egg crate as the stuff on all ponds doesnt seem to have the extra lower plastic ribs
