Oooo....let's talk about that towel. Where you do find that amazing-ness beauty? Love it! Hope your move is going well. Can't wait to make this recipe for gifting to my dad with his dragon feet thing that he's had going on since the 80's. lol. I think he's tried everything commercially available, but think the butters might really help.

The towel was a Christmas gift from a good friend 😄 There's a pink one, too! The move is coming along... I'm currently looking for a kitchen/dining table. I'm rapidly running out of space so I'm hoping to find a triangular one that I can push up against the wall 90% of the time but pull out for some extra seating if required. They're proving difficult to find, though 🤔 I've seen a few but they seem to go quickly on second hand websites. At least a dining table isn't a make-or-break thing, so I can eat on the sofa until I find one :P

@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 лет назад
Thank you! My challenge with a skin care book is the MASSIVE potential ingredient shopping list. Most of the variation in cosmetics is in colour and consistency, so I was able to keep the shopping list for Make it Up pretty short. For skin care... woooo... there are SO many potential ingredients! Extracts, emulsifiers, oils, butters, vitamins, hydrolyzed proteins, actives, hydrosols, essential oils... it would either have to be a very focussed book (just lotions, that sort of thing) or a fairly simple broad strokes thing 🤔
@charlesward8632
@charlesward8632 6 лет назад
Ugh, I know all about the siren songs of the ingredient list. I just bought e-wax, polysorbate 80, stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, and germall just so I could make your Forest Cleansing Balm and Ginger and Oakmoss Cleansing Stick (the oakmoss is still whispering to me from my online shopping cart). I am an essential oil nut and would also love to see a book that focuses on just essential oils blends that can be used in perfumes/colognes/diffusers and a section for therapeutic blends that can be used in roller bottles or balms. Just a thought!

Another great video!! So much information and I can't wait to make it. I have a question, why stirring all ingredients to reach a light trace, and if using a larger quantity recipe, could you use an immersion blender to help speed up the trace process?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 лет назад
I suppose you could, but this trace isn't like soap trace-we are basically just trying to keep it moving until it cools sufficiently, and I don't think an immersion blender will really help it cool any faster than stirring by hand.

Hi Marie, I did this recipe but it didn't set up well. The result was kind of an extremely soft product (almost liquid). I had to melt it again and add 8g of beeswax to make it firmer. Any guess on why this happened? On the other hand, I also made your Soothing Cedarwood Ointment, which has a similar technique (the ice bath) and it turned out well, actually much harder than I expected. But the difference is that the SC Ointment has cetyl alcohol and beewax in it but this foot butter doesn't, so I don't know how it would set up so well without any thickener in order to be so firm as yours. I did mixed it constantly, but I'm not sure if I reached "trace". Do you think the quality of the shea butter may have played a role in the final product? I used refined, but I'm not sure if it is a really good quality butter. This is all I can think of trying to give a explanation why it didn't set up. Thanx!!!
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 лет назад
Hmm. Is it super hot where you live? Shea butter and mango butter both melt around 35°C, so if it's around there, that could be the issue.

@catzkeet4860

Jebisha Pearl well peppermint and eucalyptus oils DO have an effect. They’re both oils that contain menthol which has a cooling effect on the skin, and they both have proven anti bacterial properties. Lovely in a foot butter. In addition, those two oils have a lovely fresh fragrance when combined. Essential oils DO have an effect on the body, tho whether you care to believe the more ambitious claims for their effects is up to you.The fact is, if you wish to use essential oils simply for their fragrance you can....it’s your choice. Just remember that you CAN over do it with essential oils. Always make sure you are aware of the safe dosages for essential oils and stay within them.

I made this today for the very first time using mango, shea and grapeseed oil.I followed the instructions exactly as written. First of all, I never saw this trace thing and by the time I tried to pour it in my tin, it was too thick and would not pour! I remelted it, put it back in the ice bath, never saw the trace thing again but it was pourable and appeared to set up nicely! That was six hours ago and it still has not hardened! I don't know what to do! Should I put it in the fridge? Please reply!
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe Год назад
Since you didn't notice a lighter trace, my first guess is that it probably happened really quickly? This could be because you were using a vessel that cooled faster than the heavy glass measuring cup I was using; perhaps thinner glass, or metal or plastic? Ambient temperature will also be a factor: if you live somewhere significantly warmer than I do, that'll make the butter softer-possibly too soft. It'll depend. Think about how soft butter is at "room temperature" in the summer vs in the winter; like that. You can try putting it in the fridge, but I'd encourage you to try trace again, seeing if you can slow things down (less ice in the ice bath can help with that as well) and keeping an eye out for all the changes that will happen as the butter cools. This technique does take a bit of time to master, but is truly worth it ❤️

I read your blog and it's very informative, thank you for it. I'd like to tweak it a bit just to kind of make it my own. I did try it with all shea butter and it is very greasy, still lovely though. I'm wondering if coconut oil (solid at room temp) would be an ok substitution for the mango butter. Also, what if we wanted to leave the essential oils out completely. Would we just increase the butter portion since the essential oils are part of the overall percentage in recipe?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 лет назад
Hey! Please don't use coconut oil for mango butter-in a product like this that will lead to total recipe failure-you'll have a soft, gloppy mess. You can learn more about that in this video (keeping in mind the similarities and differences between mango and shea): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wGK4mkLRXNM.html. If you want to eliminate the EOs you would replace them with more safflower oil-liquid for liquid.

@EvanWeightman

I have tried to make this twice today and it's not solidifying. I even painstakingly measured to make sure I'm not crazy and added less EO in case that was the issue. I can use just about any other light carrier oil too. Just not sure what's causing it.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe Год назад
Hi! There are two possibilities. The first is that you live somewhere much hotter than I do, so it's melting on you. Is your home above 26°C or so? The second is that you aren't bringing the mixture to a thick enough trace before pouring. I'd try re-melting and re-tracing first as it's the easier option. If it's melting, check out these resources for ways to raise the melting point: Why is my body butter melting?: www.humblebeeandme.com/why-is-my-body-butter-melting/ Partner video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M8HwCjsB23A.html (A wee bit of stearic acid is probably the easiest/best way with this formulation)

@@HumblebeeAndMe DIY recipes are very good for body butters, lotions and soaps. However, I notice that DIY foot butter / foot balm doesn't repair cracked heels. It only moisturizes / seals moisturizer at the most. I find The Body Shop peppermint butter to be very good in this respect - it not only moisturizes, but say if you apply it in the night, the next morning you can feel a visible difference - feet are extremely soft.
