How to Make DIY Perfect Body Butter Bars 

I made this yesterday but I used fractionated coconut oil cause that is what I had on hand. It turned out great! Thanks for the recipe!

Actually made my week to see someone finally comment on the inaccuracy of calling them 'lotion bars' when they are about as far from lotion as you can get! Although on the concept of 'lotion bars', I make a solid 'lotion' which I guess is more like a lotion/cream concentrate block? It's basically the oils, butters, and waxes I would usually use, plus any extracts as either powders (e.g. colloidal oatmeal, inulin, niacinamide) or infusions (chamomile infused oil is an old standard), and melt those down with emulsifying wax. Once the mixture is has cooled enough I do tend to add vitamin E for the oils, and preservative although this is optional if there are no water-phase ingredients at all. You can of course add a glycerol extract or honey if you really want, but obviously only a small amount as the idea is to have a balm or bar/block rather than something that counts as a liquid on aeroplanes! To use, you can either use it as a balm or butter/ointment/whatever by just using it as it is, but otherwise just get a bit and rub in some clean water or water-based thingy (hydrosols or freshly-chilled tea are favourites of mine) until the bit in your hand has emulsified to a consistency you like. Then spread where you want it. This way you can have a thicker cream consistency, or a lighter lotion, or a milk. The only real downside is that the concentration of actives will change, so I always keep it really simple, and prefer infused oils or things like oat oil over, say, colloidal oatmeal, in this product. I guess it's not dissimilar to a cleansing balm, really, except the complete exclusion of cleansing surfactants as you do not want those in leave-on products!

I used cocoa butter, carrot seed oil and moringa oil. It feels heavenly.

Hey! Mine mets pretty quick, was watch your other video for summer winter. Would you bump the cocoa up 5% and lower the virgin coconut oil or the beeswax? I don't wanna change it at all lol it's great on my hands but I'd be nice if for my temps, it was a little harder.. Thinking of whipping it too lol putting it in a jar for more as a cream, easier to get out?

I just made your perfect body butter bars and they are PERFECT! Thank you! I added some pine needle essential oil and the smell turned out incredible! The coconut oil aroma mixed with the pine is intoxicating. It was my first time making body butter bars. I was concerned about the heat with my essential oil so I waited a minute before adding to my melted butters. Nope, can't do that. Haha! Had to remelt and add my oil as soon as it was melted. I don't know if the heat "ate" some of it, but at 1.30% it doesn't smell too potent. Do you have any pro tip for that? Thank you :)

I had to modify this, but used the same recipe. Still has coconut oil, cocoa butter, and beeswax. Just not the good smelling ones. Lol. I wanted it mostly unscented because I added tea tree and lavender essential oil.

I want to add honey to this. I don't want it to be too soft so I think either reducing the coconut oil or adding beeswax will compensate? I'm ready to experiment. I see that a lot of recipes have a 1:1:1 ratio, so I think I'll probably try reducing the oil first.

It’s easier said then done , some people are actually allergic to coconut so we have no choice but to be left in the wild because no one makes anything with out coconut stuff and it’s annoying

Oooooh. I'm going to make these in my honeybee guest soap mold. I only have refined beeswax at the moment, so I'll add a titch of honey almond fragrance. Edit: I've made it many times now, with many different fragrances. Shea butter works just as well for me as cocoa butter!

Also, I was looking at whipped body butter, and some of the recipes had 1:2 coconut oil/sweet almond oil to a butter, and others were 1:1, for whipped body butter, what would be the best ratio?

Help please! I've made these several times. I melt my ingredients till they're crystal clear with no sign of clear bits of beeswax pastilles on top, but I always see unincorporated, opaque beeswax balls show up on the surface a minute after I pour. I skim them off with a spoon, but a few stragglers always appear just as the surface sets too much to skim without leaving big bumps. When I use the bars, I have to discard the little beeswax bits as I find them. What should I be doing differently?

A little arrowroot starch eliminates the greasiness

I substitute the cocoa butter with pure shea butter and it is just as good but it does need fragrance oil shea does not smell as good as coco butter. Lol. Good video
