I have made my own version of the popular color-changing potion bottles that are more affordable because they use supplies from the dollar store. With just a few dollars worth of supplies, you can make your own Halloween potion bottles that have a magical surprise!

Just made one! I used a cool bottle I already had and some old eyeshadow . Didn't buy a thing! I have an annual Halloween party and to change things up, instead of having people guess how many candies are in a jar, I'm going to have them guess how much potion is in the bottle.Thanks for the tutorial!

Going to try this with some mini bottles I just got! I'm going to experiment with using hand sanitizer because I wonder if the gelling agent will let the pigments stay suspended - they won't swirl, but I think it might be better for displaying if it works

Does it have to have a stopper or can it be a screw on lid? I have saved some bbq sauce bottles that will make awesome potion bottles (jack daniels bbq sauce in the glass bottles)

Screw on lids will work! I would just make sure to really cover them with hot glue to seal them up.

You can use any marker color, but they might not be as vibrant.

Food coloring would definitely work (but it won't glow under black light). I was trying to use only things I found at the dollar store, and I haven't seen food coloring there.

Can this work with water or MUST it be rubbing alcohol?

When I tried it with water, the pigments all clumped together and wouldn't swirl like I wanted them to.

Makeup pigment like powder.. eyeshadow or what kind of makeup

Any kind of shimmery powder should work. This was loose pigment meant for eyes, but you could crush up blush or highlighter too.

How long would this last? WIll it go bad? Get mouldy?

It does work with food coloring. That is the first method I tried, but I only had gel food coloring on hand. I wasn't able to get the gel coloring to fully dissolve in the water. If you have liquid food coloring, it should work in the same way as the markers. Hope that helps!
